Trade Murray, sign Samsonov to a 1 year 3M, run 12F 7D

Surely someone has to be willing to take Murray's dirt cheap buyout for say a 3rd and a 7th, similar to Bailey's deal. Perhaps Winnipeg will want a goalie if/when Hellebuyck is gone. Ditto with Anaheim and Gibson.

We can let Samsonov go to arb where he'll likely get 3m or less since Arg is not usually friendly to goalies

How’s that money supposed to work for the Blues?

The strategy is a good one but I don't think that you've considered this from St. Louis' point of view sufficiently.

The Blues are giving Toronto $4 million in cap relief and paying $6.5 million in actual cash for the privilege of doing so, all while under cap pressure themselves. I don't see them giving you the higher and earlier draft pick in this exchange.

Bailey's deal isn't close to comparable because when he was traded, he could be bought out cheaply, in part because his actual salary was $3.5 million. In contrast, Murray can't be bought out by an acquiring team and his actual salary is $6 million.
