1 Too Many RD - Odd Man Out

Description
Hey Pred Fans...

So, after all of the moves Trotz has done, it is appearing that we may have 1 too many RD...
The question becomes, who is the odd man out?

My thought is that Livingstone is the 7th man, regardless of the 3 that are in.
-Schenn can play either top pair through bottom pair... though seeing what he did with Morgan Reilly on the Leafs, he proved he can be a good stalwart to an offensive minded D partner like Josi.
-Carrier & Fabbro are still 'developing' and could grow into form... but last season appeared to be more of a step back rather than a step forward.
-Barrie can be a Top-4 D and take over PP2... but he is older and maybe gets in the way of letting the younger guys grow.

So really it comes down to moving on from one of Carrier and Fabbro as they've hit their ceiling, or moving on from Barrie as he doesn't fit the long term plan?

My hope is Barrie is the one that gets moved out, maybe even for just a 3rd rounder... but if the plan is to push for the playoffs this season still, he is a better option over Fabbro / Carrier.

Thoughts?

(As for forwards, I am hoping Kemell & Evangelista carve out spots on the roster, but Kemell might need a bit more time to simmer in the minors.)

Livingston will almost certainly play in the AHL, sitting him on the bench would be a complete waste of his potential and only hurt his development

NSH seems to always overload on defensemen, eh? I thought it was weird when they got Schenn, I thought that meant they'd move on from Carrier, but then they signed him, too. NSH can only retain on one more contract for this season, would it be worth it to retain on Barrie? I doubt there'd be much interest for him.

I think the most likely scenario is they either bench or trade Lauzon, since they'd probably actually get something for him. They did just sign Carrier so it's not like they'll trade him. Fabbro does have upside. I think they have Lauzon ride the bench/trade market and play one of the righties on LD for now.

I'd also definitely get Sherwood in the lineup, he was good down the stretch in their little run last year.

I see Livingstone in MIL, until there's an injury. It would be best for his development, and he's waiver exempt.

I just don't see the logic in thinking 4 NHL RHD is too many. Injuries happens and what ever side they play regularly, having 7 or 8 NHL capable Dmen is necessary for the season .
Not that object to trading Barrie....but your logic is incorrect when who say the Preds have "too many" RHD.

Yeah, as much as I would want him in the big club, it makes more sense to have him play more in the AHL.

Maybe if things look bleak come trade deadline time, retention and a trade for Barrie could be had... but I don't think trading him with retention now makes sense. And agreed, getting Sherwood some time would be great as well.

As for putting Carrier or Fabbro on the left side over Lauzon... its an option, and if an injury happens in the top 4, it is likely required for someone to move to the left side.

Yeah, that makes sense. So he goes down to the AHL, who then becomes the healthy scratch? Lauzon? Fabbro? Carrier?

I guess I would feel better if one of Carrier and Fabbro had some time spent on LD. But maybe that is what gets looked at this year. I agree that 7-8 NHL capable Dmen is necessary, it is just usually number 7 & 8 are $1 mil a year players, not $2 mil. That's more my thought of maybe having 'too many'.
