That's like renting a nintendo game vs a ps5.

About as realistic as the NO!-Lander for Toews/Byram trades which is no doubt why you did it?

I would say it's like trading the PS5 for a PS5 game. The result is you can't play, while the other guy just pays for the download.

Matthews is already talking about taking a discount to win in Toronto (https://www.mapleleafsinsider.com/Auston-Matthews-is-reportedly-willing-to-take-a-discount-on-his-next-deal-to-help-the-Leafs-build-a-winner-250725). Why would the Leafs trade him for 25% of his value?

Not really. Toews for Nylander which is unlikely but not farfetched on one end, and Matthews for Toews which is farfetched on the other. So, Matthews for Toews is a good hyperbolic example for Nylander for Byram (which is unlikely) perhaps but not the other.

Not really, there's Toews for Nylander which is unlikely but not farfetched, then there's Byram for Nylander which is just not happening, then comes Matthews for Toews which is farfetched. So Matthews for Toews is a good hyperbolic example for Nylander for Byram maybe but not the other.

There's no earth where it makes sense for the Avs to trade Toews for Nylander so therefore it's a good hyperbolic example for both.

They're both rentals, each team trades from their strength

Hypothetically, if acquiring Nylander filled a need (e.g, Landy's career is over), and Toews could be replaced internally (say Byram breaks out) or externally for less than what it would cost to acquire a Nylander equivalent (e.g Hanifin-not saying it is possible), then it could make sense.

Except that's a LOT of ifs, buts and maybes.

I love it! Maybe we should get the ”standard” first round pick as well…?

That is why I said "hypothetically" and "Toews for Nylander is unlikely but not farfetched" in my original reply. I do get what you are saying though, there's no reason for the Avs to weaken their D-core (the biggest reason imo that they won the Cup) for a winger that they don't presently need.
