EK to CAR Route

Created by: SpankyGeezus
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2023
Published: Jul. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
SJS
  1. Morrow, Scott [Reserve List]
  2. Pesce, Brett
  3. Teräväinen, Teuvo
  4. 2024 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Pesce and Turbo go to make $ work and give SJS assets to flip for quality futures. Whether SJS decides to move them immediately or at the TDL is is up to them. I expect Pesce would be desired immediately by several teams, Turbo might require some time to get the right deal. Morrow is a stud D prospect but Carolina is in win now mode, the 2024 1st is worth more to SJS than CAR.
CAR
  1. Karlsson, Erik ($4,600,000 retained)
Additional Details:
For SJS to retain 4,600,000 (40%), the return would have to be exactly what they desire. Carolina historically doesn't like to eat cost in these high paying contracts, but 6,900,000 for EK is something they would consider.

Is Pesce, Turbo, Morrow, and a 2024 1st a high price for EK alone? Sure. However, Carolina gets EK at a vastly reduced price which saves them net 2,525,000 this season, making room for other moves (Tarasenko, etc..)
2.
SJS
  1. Kyrou, Christian
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Kyrou is a nice RHD prospect to stock the cupboards in SJ.
DAL
  1. Pesce, Brett ($2,012,500 retained)
Additional Details:
DAL desperately needs help at RD and Pesce is exactly the type of player they could use in their top 4.

having karlsson would be nice but for how much he’d cost i think carolina is better off keeping pesce, if even as a self-rental for their cup run this year.

that’s obviously a great return for san jose and they could flip those pieces for probably pretty amazing pieces at the TDL

Yeah if I was CAR I would stay away, however, this was just my take on how it would have to go down if at all. If I’m Mike Grier Morrow has to be a starting point in any deal with the Canes.

That does not get an EK65 deal done. Way too much value going to SJ.

I'd rather retain 50% on TT or he's tough to flip. That could get a good return. Pesce at his 4mm will still have good value to contenders.

True but at the TDL his cap hit becomes far less and contenders are much more flexible
