Description
Thanks to Drew O'Conner's filing for Arbitration, Buyouts are back, baby!

[Insert "Meat's Back on the Menu, Boyz!" meme here.]

Petry and two 2nd's can go pretty much anywhere that'll take the deal and to which team he's cool being sent. There has to be one that works.

The Rutta deal can pretty much go anywhere as well. He's a perfectly good 3RD, but unless you can get SJS to eat more of Karlsson's contract you're going to want more space even after a BO for MG and a dump for Petry.

I’d be surprised if you were able to move Petry's contract for less than a 1st. $6.25M with term is a tough pill to swallow. Hawks say no IMO

I doubt the Hawks would agree either as he is a pointless acquisition, but this notion that Petry is an albatross contract is brain dead. He's plenty capable of 20-22 minutes/game at 2RD on a contender. He does need a solid partner, but at his price and age, he shouldn't be expected to carry a pair anyway. If Petry were a UFA this year, he would be easily the best RD in the class. He's at most a million overpaid, but he's no liability like Granlund or Carter. Klingberg, Gudas, Dumba are all inferior players and arguably will be on worse value contracts.

Yeah, to be perfectly honest, I almost prefer not to take on Karlsson, keep Petry as the 2RD, and use the cap space on forwards. Petry is by no means bad, and the only real reason to move him now is to create space for a big deal like an EK trade. Maybe you deal Petry next year, depending on how things unfold.

Agreed, Petry is far from an albatross. But I don’t believe the hawks are in a place to take advantage of him for the next couple of years.

I didn’t see he was still averaging over 22 mins a night. Impressive
