Why not just give Boston Vanecek in that case?

Fair enough if you're not expecting to be in a playoff spot

Boston does not need cap space anymore.

Decent offer but not enough to make them jump at it when they don’t have to.

Vanacek was not any better then the goalies Sabres have. He is not an upgrade. With Levi UPL and Comrie and a better D that Adams addressed they will be just fine.

Vanacek is better than any goalie the Sabres currently have and his stats prove it by a mile. Even the 7 game sample size from Levi, Vanacek has a better GAA and Save Percentage, his failure was in the playoffs.

I would do this from the Sabres. Vanecek is under contract for 2 years at a reasonable hit, he's at least average, and he's young enough that he could stick around if it worked out. On paper at least, the d in front of the goalies has been markedly improved. I'm not placing too much blame on upl, chances are he pulls an ullmark on us and looks much better without the constant high danger chances, but I'm ready to go a different way. Of course, with the upgrades on d, and a steady vet like vanecek in the mix, we would have filled the obvious holes in our end, so if it still doesn't work, granato gets to answer for the system.

Vanacek had a better D in front of him. And when the games meant the most his knees buckled and Schmid took over. No interest in Vanacek. Adams got better D for Buffalo. Goalies will be just fine. And if he was that good why Devils trying or you trying to get rid of him

To your last point, I'm getting rid of him here because Ullmark is better.

Vanecek was already in a slump when the playoffs started, so I don't buy that he buckled under pressure.

To your first point, let's look at the numbers, adjusted for team defense.
GSAx/60, rank among goalies who played at least 10 games:
Vanecek: 0.105, 30th
UPL: -0.157, 52nd
Comrie: -0.372, 69th

Levi was good in a small sample, but may not be ready for a full starter workload. In this scenario you'd be running 1A/1B with Vanecek and Levi.

This is why Buffalo is still looking for someone who can split time with Levi, UPL isn't it, he's been below average pretty much his entire NHL career. Vanecek on the Sabres last year and they make the playoffs. Someone like Vanecek to split the crease with Levi 50/50 for this season to get Levi acclimated to the grind of the NHL season is perfect for the Sabres. Comrie hasn't played more than 19 games in a season in the NHL, UPL is bad and Levi who is the heir apparent and future of the Sabres in net has 7 games under his belt.

I don’t see the Sabres being interested

We likely either bring in a big name, like Gibson or Hellebuyck,
or we just go with our young guys & let them develop

I get the sentiment but Gibson is not a "big name," or even an average name. He is significantly worse than Vanecek.

You sure are making a lot of assumptions here that aren’t necessarily true. UPL is still young & has played only 46 career games. The Sabres simply don’t know yet what they have with him.
Vanecek playing with our injured & weak defense in front of him last year would not have been a sure thing to get us to the playoffs.
And calling Levi the heir apparent after only 7 games is quite absurd. We don’t know about him long term either, which is why it seems the Sabres want to give him & UPL more games.

This could certainly change if the Sabres can bring in a game changer type goalie, but that simply isn’t Vanecek.

Having worse stats on a terrible team doesn’t mean you’re actually worse than a goalie with average stats on a good team, let alone “significantly worse”
Exaggerating by using the word significantly doesn’t make your argument better, it makes it worse

Even if you adjust for defense it's not pretty. Among goalies who played at least 10 games, Vanecek is 30th by GSAx/60. Gibson is 60th.

Vanecek has played ONLY for playoff teams, and the best he’s been is just average

Even if he is better than Gibson, the Sabres still aren’t gonna want him.
Maybe someone else will?
