Inclined to agree but I think it gives them an option to turn Myers (if they retain again) into a late 2nd round pick at the TDL and then if Boeser starts scoring again is equal to a 1st or they just keep him and is a legit player for them.

Would Canes then pay a 1st round pick? Otherwise I think the value is fair

Yeah, I thought about that and while it’s not a bad option I don’t think GMs are that comfortable with having to flip players after a big deal like this to get more value out of them. If Meyers gets hurt in the first month of the season while being showcased, or something else happens it’s a big risk. And in this market guys just aren’t valued that highly so you’re still going to trade at a discount.

They don’t have a ton of leverage with just a couple of teams still interested so if they really are motivated to move him I can see it happening but they could also hold onto him I suppose.

There’s other ways to make it work. This isn’t the last move the team is making one way or another.

By the time all is said and done, EK would work at around $7.5M, so two teams retaining a portion. There are other moves that will be made as well.
