They paid a 3rd so I'd imagine they want at least that.

They paid a 3rd, but he hasn’t been great, is year closer to UFA, cap is tight. So probably available for lesser pick unless they are okay rolling with three goalies.

I did a similar exercise earlier today. As part of it I looked from the Calgary side. Not knowing any of their prospects and going off of

- The reason it is rumored they are open to trade is to bring Wolf up

- with the IR defenseman brought back to the fold, they have seven defensemen all UFA all making $1M+

- With those 7 defensemen and a goalie change they can't ice what Daily Faceoff projects as their lines. They are over cap.

My conclusion as a devils fan is that barring other moves a third and a forward on his ELC was the most likely desired return.

Agreed, I'd add that the player included can play any position. The key is that they be on a two way contract for this season

Thompson wouldn't work because the Flames would want a player on a two way contract for this season. Thompson kind of has negative value in this trade because of the Flames cap situation
