Islanders aren’t trading Dobson for Nylander one for one imo, but this would be terrible for them!

I think the Isles pass on this without any other cap going back - even with Dobson's $4M off the books, they'd only have about $8.9M in cap space next summer. They don't have a *ton* of guys to re-sign, but even without that I don't think Nylander signs for $8.9M AAV. Trading Dobson and a 1st for a rental is a bad move - even more so when you consider that trading Dobson means that someone like Grant Hutton gets called up to play significant minutes in 2023-24. This is filling one hole (scoring) by creating another (RD), for both teams honestly, and I don't think either team jumps at it.

I doubt that anyone will trade significant assets -- especially long-term assets -- for Nylander without a future plan in place, and that's just pure speculation unworthy of serious consideration until the Toronto front office announces that they've permitted other teams to negotiate with Nylander and his "team."
