The Blues are not interested in ripping off arms and legs for a 12-15M player. That's not how they do things. And they could not afford this even if they magically wanted to. And they're all set at C anyway.

If TOR can get their hands on a decent 2nd that projects to not be too late, something like this could be doable. But, like @mokumboi said, STL probably isn't doing that trade, and I don't even think TOR's 2024 2nd would get it done. They will likely be near the top of the standings next season, which means that 2nd would be super late, and likely not enough to pay for such a cap dump, IMHO.

He MIGHT be our best goalie if he could actually stay healthy, but that is beside the point. We don't need him and TOR needs to move his cap hit out, therefore they pay to move the cap hit. There is no selling him to CHI on any other aspect other than as a cap dump. We aren't trying to burry our prospects in depth. This is the year that Soderblom is penciled in to get serious NHL ice time, likely take the starting job from Mrazek, and establish himself as an NHL goaltender. But, I would certainly take a 1st! haha.

The more common proposal has actually been TOR sending a 1st to dump his contract and receiving a 3rd, a late 2nd, or an asset in that range of value, to balance the trade.

The only good trade is the Murray dump. Leafs get absolutely fleeced in all of these trades
