The Nylander extension is the most Important part of this deal, and it can’t just be glossed over.

I'm guessing that the canes can get away with something like 8 x 8.5AVV, basically due to tax differences they can pay 0.5-0.75 mil less than the leafs.

That would be a great extension, and makes a big difference. Issue is it’s not realistic.

Nylander is asking for $10.5m AAV which would equate to around $9.6m AAV with the effective tax rate change.

An $8m AAV extended Nylander is worth way more in trade value than the Canes would give up. A lot more than Pesce Drury and some picks.

The leafs can offer loads of bonus money that is just as good as less taxes. Willy isn't accepting 8.5. 9.5 and it will be in TO.

Besides that, an extended Willy is worth a hell of a lot more than Pesce. And Drury

Got to wonder if he would even consider the idea of a sign and trade.

Things to consider:

1) He's a ufa and there might not be anything in Carolina that makes him want to sign an extension beforehand.

2) Does he view this as "sorry, but we can't afford you, so let's find a mutually beneficial trade" or "you're not valuable enough to our organization for us to cater to you". If it's the second, I wouldn't be surprised if he lets 9M go down the drain.
