I could see kubalik, but batherson is a better player in a really good contract. Also teams won’t go near him until everything with the 2018 team has come out

Honestly why go through the motions of trading anyone..... with NYR cap issues you realistically offer sheet Laf at 3.1 mill and only give up a 2nd to get him while keeping everyone else and if the Rangers match their cap situation is in dire straits

They need a cheap winger (preferably RW) who will put up 40+ points on top of draft picks

Easily can match 3.1 and run a 21 man roster, which many NHL teams do these days. Would need to offer sheet over 4mil

It's possible, but if injuries happened it would put even more constraints on a not as deep team as they were last year. Which as a Pens fan would make me very happy

The absolute best thing for NYR would be if some team offered him 4x4.5 or whatever. They'd just be doing their work for them while also opening themselves up for payback. There is no OS they don't match, and they have plenty of people they can move.

He's not available. He's got more ESG than Stutzle despite playing almost no Top 6 minutes. Ottawa payed Stutzle 8.35m. Any OS in the realm of possibility is a NYR win and immediate match. It's not rocket science.

Plenty...? It'd literally just be Goodrow we can move, and even he has a M-NTC to get in the way. Goodrow is the only guy to move that makes any sense to block an offer sheet.

There are 8 players that are eligible for the next buyout window. Buying out Trouba would be addition by subtraction. Lindgren is also likely playing his last year with NYR. They could pay to move Goodrow if they need to. They haven't tried to move him because they want him on the team.

There is no sense in "blocking" an OS. If anything you're kinda hoping for someone to do your business for you.

They just named Trouba captain. How is buying him out and leaving the RD in shambles "addition by subtraction"? Luckily the Sather years are gone. There's no way they will buy him out. Really none of the other buyouts have any relevant cost savings right now. Trading Goodrow is the only move.

By "block" I meant "match", same thing...

Lindgren will definitely be re-signed to a 4-4.5mil contract next year

Even then we’ll match Lmao, Laf is a priority over goodrow…. Pretty easy to figure out what we’d do here

Of course he is, but making a trade happen with our backs against the wall wouldn't be ideal. I think you can be 10% over the cap until September, which we should be depending on the off sheet. But teams will have us by the balls and we could end up paying assets to unload, which wouldn't be ideal.

I was hoping Drury would've signed Miller and Laffy at the same time to prevent this handcuffing

That'd be a pretty good return for the Rangers. That pick could end up good and Brannstrom is a young rising 2-way D-man

That's a gamble Sens can afford to take since they are stacked on LHD and still have their first round picks going forward

Like if Batherson and Kubalik had anywhere close the same value? lol

More looking at a replacement winger vs an unneeded defenseman, I know they are very different. And Batherson with retention (to make the cap work for NYR) would need more added from NYRs side.

Ultimately I don't think it's a good fit, that was pretty much my point

TBL is also around a 20th overall pick, and it's not supposed to be a deep draft next year... so not even close as is

Sens are not trading Batherson. His contract is needed as much as many other teams in cap crunch

Not sure why you're talking about TBL too

My apologies, thought the 1st pick was TBL for some reason

Honestly though about an offer sheet, but offer sheets don’t ever happen in the nhl so landed in a cheap player with upside and a draft pick

Captain doesn't mean anything. This is a multibillion dollar industry. You're not keeping from making an essential decision because your last coach had a C sewn into his jersey.

Paying Lindgren 4.4x6 is dumb AF and you should have someone else pay that, not NYR. He's not Carlo, Marino or Severson. He's good, but he's not irreplaceable and not worth paying market value for.
