Description

This is based on a lot of predictions in terms of cap hit going up and the contracts I think the young Habs RFAs will get coming off their ELCs.

As for Oettinger and Rantanen, I think the Habs need 1 more elite forward and a bona fide starter to contend, so I just used these guys as examples of moves/signings I think they'll need by 25-26.

Lastly, we can assume that the Habs 1st round picks in 24 and 25 will not play with the team until at least 26 or 27. However, if they are able to draft Celebrini/Eiserman/Demidov next year, then they will have their elite forward and will likely be in the lineup at some point during the 25-26 season.

Why would Dallas trade their bona fide starter, as you put it, for a pile of mid?

As I wrote in the description, Oettinger is an example as the type of guy Montreal would need to target. He will most likely be untouchable but a goalie of his calibre would be needed
