I guess its a good think your not the GM in Pittsburgh eh? I dont know that any team wants to give up that many futures in trades. You would give up 6 picks over the next 3 years in just these 2 deals. You also gave up 6 pickts to get 2 guys that will require big contracts after this year and you dont have any money to do so. So not only did you give up 6 futures, but you will have Dumba, Nurse, Zucker that will all need to be signed in 2018 with $6M tops... So "IF" you win the cup for a threepeat, your still losing 2 of those players and 6 futures for a cup... Think about tomorrow, not just today

As a Pens fan. I'll gladly take a rebuild for a threepeat. I say go all in.

BTW

-Reaves and Niemi will go off the books (to be replaced by Zach Aston Reese and Jarry). That's 2.7 million. Parise could be traded for a couple second rounders or a first during the offseason. That's 3.8 million. That's 6.5 million freed up for the following season, ALONG WITH, the usual 2 million added to salary cap (though not definite). So all in all, that is roughly 8.5 million to be spread among 3 players. So yeah, we'd probably lose a player, but it wouldn't be all that bad, like your suggesting.

As a fellow Pens fan, I say you're nuts. And I would fire any GM immediately who did this.

I wouldn't even be opposed to moving a few of the better prospects and picks for the right big name to keep up the talent level for the next 3-4 years Cup window but that Parise move is cap suicide. There is no way Minny is gonna eat that much contract for the next 8 years and even if they would, it looks like his decline has already started so that 3.8 mill a year is gonna be an albatross pretty darn quick. Pull Parise , Rust, one of PIT's 2nd's (or keep both 2nd's and remove the 1st )and there might be a deal there with some tweaking.
