Caps don’t have room to add those players and also they don’t move the needle for them in the slightest.

Is a trade not allowed to be bad for both teams? Backlund with that retention is probably worth Lapierre and a 2nd so Calgary is basically giving away Coleman for free here. Just because you don't want his contract does not make it a bad contract

Fair enough. Trades can be bad for both parties; just not used to seeing that here. My bad!

As for Backlund's value, not sure I agree he's worth the 2nd and Lapierre but it doesn't strike me as ridiculous to suggest, either. I think it's fair to consider Coleman's contract bad. He's a quality even strength player and brings a lot of valuable qualities but I don't think it justifies the cap number or the length.

I mean he's a quality rental with retention

Yeah that Coleman contract is horrible. No chance the Caps make this trade for that reason alone.
