Trouba Offseason

Created by: GoofyFoFoofy
Team: 2024-25 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 18, 2023
Published: Jul. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
(This is half-satirical)

After a slow start to the 2023-24 season, the Rangers found their mojo at just the right time to surge into the playoffs.

With Panarin and Zibanejad being revitalized and having their best seasons to date, Kakko breaking out with 50 points including 30 goals, Lafreniere potting 60 points, Chytil becoming a 30-goal scorer at a point per game, and many other spectacular performances. The New York Rangers have surged to win the 2024 Stanley Cup.

After an NHL record-breaking 27 decapitations in one season, Trouba has become revered by other NHL teams as a high-end leader in the league and with the need to shed cap space, the New York Rangers send him home to Michigan in exchange for another large (but not as large) contract and a 1st round pick. Trouba sets his sights on bathing Little Ceasars Arena in blood.

Lindgren has proved himself to be the most optimal partner for Adam Fox, and so he fetches a solid payday of a 25m contract.

Kakko is awarded with a 36m contract as well for his spectacular breakout season.

Goodrow, being the scapegoat in the NYR for the past season, has been bought out to the shadow realm, and so to replace him on the 3rd line the Rangers will bring in Wennberg on a short-term but fair cap deal.

The Rangers also hope that Othmann can prove to be a servicable NHLer this season with a great opportunity on the 3rd line playing with Kreider.

Like obviously you take out the first round pick from Detroit unless you retain a whole bunch.

Detroit passes, Depending on how both Boston and Detroit do. Boston's 2024 1st will probably go to Ottawa in the DeBrincat trade. Plus Trouba won't get a 1st round pick back. Detroit needs to resign both Raymond and Seider and that could eat up anywhere from $15,000,000 to $16,000,000 combined. So we can't afford to add Trouba's $8,000,000 next season.

Unless Trouba becomes a 50P defenseman, he is a Cap-Dump. A bigger one than Holl.

That's fair, depends on how the market will be like for him.

No reason for us to give up a first at all. Maybe a team does but I doubt it with that contract, never know though.

Trouba has stated he got the NMC for the time he did so Dr. Trouba could finish her residency, so no he doesn't waive to go home.

Next year he needs to submit a 15 team no-trade list. I don’t think Detroit is on that and they are probably the only team outside the list who can afford his 8M cap hit. Buying out Goodrow won’t be enough to get Rangers under the cap for next year
