Description

With retention on Mantha the deal is even cap-wise for this year.

WSH gets a little younger and better overall with two solid wingers in Boeser and Garland.

VAN gets skilled center depth and $3.8m more in cap space for next season. They can choose to roll three decent offensive lines or move Miller to the wing depending on the situation.

As a Caps fan I don't love it but I don't hate it. If they feel like they can't get Kuz going then I'd do this trade.

I wonder if a third team would retain on mantha for a pick or two so the caps could then afford to ice a 23 man roster. Would be perfect for all parties

This is an interesting idea for sure. If this decision had to be made right now, I think the Caps would pass since the best shot they have of being a real threat is Kuznetsov having a year like he did in 21-22. But if this deal is still on the table a few months into the season and Kuzy hasn't found his footing yet, I'd pull the trigger for sure
