Itty bitty issue they retained on Maroon so he would be 1mill

Also if they had 4mill why not just keep Colton

His retention is still counted in the cap though.

      And Colton is meh.

Colton over the last 2 seasons 1.14 goals per 60
Playing with 3/4th liners compared to say
      Tavares. 1.12
      Kubalik .9
      Marchand 1.16
      Panerin 1.00
Colton is meh what an utterly foolish comment.

Idk with Killorn gone maybe Colton would have been the potential replacement up there and taken his game to the next level

Also factoring Tampa taxes probs would be making less than what he is in Colorado

So he's a great bottom-6 guy but unproven top-6 guy. Sounds like Joonas Donskoi to me.

Meh is probably a rough assessment, but he's far from my first option to a top-6 role.

Perhaps, but tbh I also like the idea of turning the guy into picks.

Then respectfully I think you're foolish.
Keep telling yourself whatever you have to to justify bad takes.

I mean a 2nd was okay but I feel the player would have been more useful for TBL. I would have tried to trade Killorn's rights to ANA for like a 6th or something

Also if we really think about it if they never made that god awful TDL trade would have had a draft class of picks

I mean it was the 37th OA which is the equivalent to a low 1st now. Plus Ethan Gauthier does look like an intriguing guy. If it was a 2nd in the 45-50 range yea that would not have been ideal

Still based on this scenerio would have just been best to keep Colton

No it isn't! That a BS. Narrative for people to justify a dumb trade. Do you also Claim late firsts are basically early. Seconds when you want someone to think they aren't overpaying too ? Nothing IMO is more assinine than the early second is just like a late first GARBAGE!!!

Yeah yeah yeah you think I'm an idiot, perfectly fine and clear.

For me, it depends on the price of the guy. At $4M for a 3rd liner...yea I take the pick and replace him with any UFA opportunity fit for the role.

I compared him to Donskoi earlier, and even his price with Colorado is pretty much exactly alike.

Colton seemed to have the tools and ability to be a top 6 player, but was never given that opportunity. Averaging approx 20 goals and 40 points the last two years playing 12 minutes a night with less than top talent seemed to indicate the ability was there. Tampa had the money to.pay him, but JBB seemed to get tunnel vision on Jeannot, and that cost the team a better player in Colton. Tampa further compounded things by only buying one ufa year for Jeannot.

They have, as of now, no top 6 replacement for Killorn, as Sheary is not that guy, and Jeannot certainly isn't. They could have as much as 1.9 available to bring in a better F, or 2.6ish if they are willing to go with 21 on the roster if they trade Myers and send down the current 13th F. The loss of Killorn was expected, as Colton seemed the logical and capable player to move up, but now the team is considerably weaker offensively in the middle 6, and they've sacrificed two key role players for Jeannot and one draft pick that may be of help in 3 years(not to mention 5 additional draft picks that could've been used for other trades or to help replenish a rather empty prospect pool).

All JBB has been saying is that it's about win now and the moves he makes are to give the team the best chance to do that, but this whole Jeannot situation, from the cost paid to acquire him, to losing two better players because he became the priority, to the poor term and aav on the extension, indicates otherwise.

Brisebois has his mind set on a plan clearly, but I think that plan has been a faulty one right after the Hagel trade, even though it panned out relatively well with Hagel breaking into a legitimate top-6 winger. After that questionable move, it's been a questionable decision after another and so on.

I'm afraid he might have lost the plot. Tampa's window is closing, and some of his decision have played a part in it.

That being said, even if they had lifted Colton to a top-6 role I'm not sure if it would've changed much. Colton at best would be a replacement for Killorn (maybe), and they'd still have a hole to fill (although I do like the Sheary add).

I agree that Sheary is a solid add, but for the 3rd line, not the top 6. All I heard this offseason was that Tampa couldn't afford Colton, but that, as I thought, was false. Colton was a little overpaid on this deal, but only by maybe 500kish. Having to promote a Syracuse player to a 3rd/4th line position was something I always expected to happen this season, with a top 6 looking set. Hopwfully, Jeannot finds another level, because if not, the move has really hurt the team moving ahead.
