Without Meyers

Description
Starting to wonder if we are going to put money someplace other than Meyers. I really like Meyers' story and his work ethic but the numbers have been terrible. Who knows? If Olofsson needs to go through waivers we might use him instead of Foudy, but if we don't re-sign Meyers I'd bet on Foudy getting a good look. I think Colton pushes RyJo for the 2C role but regardless gets himself on the PP unit.

If the decision is to promote someone to that 4C role, I’m surprised Kamenevs name hasn’t come up more often.

I’m sure it’s tied to an existing KHL contract of some sort (can’t seem to locate his current contract status).

He’s a guy who had his last two NHL stints cut short due to injury. He’s a few years wiser and more experienced. Curious if he’s an option at all.

Haven't heard that name in a minute. Looked up his KHL stats, he had a helluva year last year. I think if he were an option we'd have heard about it by now. My guess is he's done in the NHL.

I'd be fine moving on from Meyers. While I hope he finds a role in the NHL, I don't think it will be anything special. Someone like Heinen likely brings similar production to what Meyers might develop.

This is the unfortunate reality. We've given Meyers a bunch of looks since he was signed out of Minnesota, and he just hasn't been able to put it together. He might pull an AJ Greer and carve a role out somewhere down the road, but not sure if we need to wait for that right now. Which is why I still think there's a bit of "next man up" mentality that needs to happen (ie Foudy) because someone will have to step up into a role one way or another this year.

The Avs qualified Myers for a reason, so I have to believe they want to give him one last look, but I do agree that he hasn't been great here and I would much rather not see him as our permanent 4C for the time being. I'd be OK giving Foudy and/or Ondrej Pavel looks there. Honestly tho, I'd prefer we get a more experienced 4C for now and give them looks later in the season or if injuries happen

No one (Meyers included) was put in a position to succeed in the revolving crap show the bottom six was last year. Bednar preferred to play JT freaking Compher 20 min per night rather than give any of the young guys meaningful minutes. It was a big fail by the organization, and it cost them.

Bottom line, I hope they learned a lesson and will commit to spreading out the ice time and developing their young players. It would also help if they don't have the same injury issues.

This Is a legit roster except I read foudy Is coming off a major shoulder injury. I think pavel would be ideal as the 4th line center considering he's solid on the PK and faceoff.

Maybe they will flip flop between meyers pavel and foudy later on. If drouin falters they could always throw colton in 2nd line and move foudy to center 3rd and pavel to 4th and trade drouin.

I agree with everything you said, especially the injury stuff. Bednar/Management was given the choice to either let the young guys swim or try like hell to scrap out a playoff spot. They clearly chose the second option and it got us in the playoffs but it set us up to be destroyed. Don't blame them for the position they were put in, but hopefully they choose a different path this year. Even if injuries hit again, I'd prefer to see us miss out on the playoffs if it helps the young guys develop more.

Pavel is interesting to me for sure. I didn't realize that about Foudy.

I read he's gonna stay. Kovalenko should be coming over in the spring just in time for the playoffs

That's just as likely as him repeating. It would be AWESOME if we found a late round steal there, but we can't count on it.
