Leafs fans… Just because Nylander is available doesn’t mean you can trade him for whoever you want in the league. Keep him for the year to get to the second round again and lose him in free agency or be prepared for an underwhelming return via trade.

The whole point of AGM is to make trades which will most likely never come true, so in fact this site is for fans to trade who ever they want to other teams for amusement.

Ah yes.. just like the Flames did with Tkachuk. Or the Jets did with Dubois. Or the Sens did with DeBrincat.. all those players were 1 year away from UFA and made it clear they weren’t returning to their teams and yet their teams still were able to get good value for them. So why doesn’t Nylander? - especially when there’s nothing saying that Nylander doesn’t want to return to Toronto?

This just seems more like an anti-Leafs post than any actual relevant information.

Every single player you just listed was an RFA without a contract at the time of trade. Not the same thing at all. He’s got one year left on his contract before he’s a UFA and will walk if he’s not paid what he wants to make. He’ll make 9.5-10m on the open market. Good luck affording that.

Every single player I listed could have simply accepted their qualifying offer and been a UFA after 1 season making it the exact same situation.

And then they’d be betting on themselves for no reason when they all ended up locking up multi year deals for tens of millions of dollars each, only one of them below their QO because he wanted to go back to his hometown (DeBrincat).

You can take my original comment as just anti leafs, but that isn’t the case. I actually love watching the leafs and they’re my second favorite team in the east, third overall behind the caps and Avs. What I can’t stand is leafs fans who think they’ll get an incredible return of young players and picks and will also get to dump Murray’s contract for trading Nylander. Or that suddenly a player who has publicly been labeled as unavailable is going to be traded for him. It isn’t happening.
