Leafs 2023-24 assuming no more incoming players

Created by: Nick_Leafs3444
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 19, 2023
Published: Jul. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Thinking a B-level prospect and a later pick should be enough to off load Murray contract.

This structure / number for Samsonov allows the Leafs to only carry one extra skater. We will see what happens.

Looking forward to pre-season already!

Anaheim is not a large market team, just asking them to pay $4.75M and what they get in return is an overpaid goaltender who might not be able to play and an undrafted AHLer, that makes the 5th rounder the most valuable asset.

Put Toronto in a rebuilding mindset, what would it take for you to take on a $4.75M goaltender in a cap crunch? If your answer is a 5th and an AHLer, you probably would be a bad GM.

First, doubt Sammy gets paid that; my guess is 1-3 years at an aav ~ $3M.
Second, no chance we ride within 13 F & 6 D; Gio is 39 + we have multiple forwards that are waiver exempt. My guess is Timmins is 7th D and Robertson starts with marlies

I disagree. (if healthy, Murray can definitely play for Anaheim considering they are going to lose Gibson).

He can still sign a deal before the 21st but the arb award will only be a 1 year deal based on his ufa in a year.

Murray put up 0.903 SV%, 3.01 GAA. That is subpar goaltending for nearly $5M on a competitive team. That is 32nd in the league SV% and 35th in GAA leaguewide, behind Halak and Copley who are signed for under $1.5M. So I think the ducks could pay less for this standard of goaltending.

A portion is already retained by Ottawa.

And Dubas bemoans that Lou stuck him with 1 yr of Marleau, but then Dubas sticks Trelving with 1 yr of Murray.

The circle of life continues.

Dubas got fired over his bad goalie signings (Mrazek and Murray), handing over $40 million to 4 forwards and for trading away 20 Draft picks on rentals over the course of his GM career.

Yet his followers say he was great.

Indeed — 25%

25% of 8 million is 2 million leaving Anaheim here to pay 6 million

Oh my bad, you mean base salary for the final year. That's true, $6M and a $4.75M cap hit, if that isn't worth a 1st or equivalent prospect during a dead cap, I don't know what is.
