You want what will basically be a late 1st for Backlund? No thanks

Change it to the Canes 2nd round pick and the Canes will do that. Doubt the Canes move that pick unless it’s at the draft or if it’s for a big enough roster upgrade.

well if my team keeps getting swept in the ecf, ima send over that pick to get a rental vet who is a top 10 defensive forward in the league lol

    Sabres say NO

When are u Flames fans gonna give up on this nonsense??
Buffalo talked to the Flames about Hannifin, & they wanted too much- SO WE MOVED ON
Went & signed 2 defensemen on July 1st

Hannifin is no longer a fit for the Sabres

Quite reasonable to get a 2nd round pick for 56 point center who plays 18 mins a night, wins faceoffs and consistently gets selke votes.

    Oh and he's retained.

I might argue it's not enough

The retention is nice, but retention at the deadline for a team that could be absolutely miles away from competing doesn't mean much. If Backlund was like even 30 and had 2/3 years left, I'd do this absolutely. But a 34 year old rental who fills the same role as Jordan Staal? Not worth what is basically a late 1st

oh ya because staal is comparable to a guy who had 20 more points then him and a past selke finalist. If you cant value a high second for a guy that fills a hole in your lineup, then idk what to tell you. looking back at the straight comedy that tkachuk served the canes, everytime you guys had your shutdown line on in a desperation shift they would just get served, mainly because the canes middle 6 lacks a qb like him

Have a look at where Jordan Staal was in the Selke voting from this last year... if you don't want to, it was 4th... he's as good if not better defensively than Backlund. Staal's offense isn't as strong, absolutely fair enough, but Staal is one of the strongest play drivers in the league. His line with Martinook and Fast that saw a ton of top line opponents was one of the best in the NHL. Look at what they did to Jack Hughes and the Devils.

Tkachuk didn't do much against the Canes outside of the 2 big goals. Oh, and that was a Canes team without Svechnikov and a Teravainen that had a broken hand...

Backlund is like “Bergeron light” with his 2-way play, so that’s totally reasonable or close, especially if you re-sign him in which case it may be too little

If the Flames were offering to take 50% off Backlunds salary the trade would be more than a 2nd.

Backlund is a Jordan Staal esque player... they're the same age, both monsters defensively, both great leaders, Backlund has a little more offense, but he's not worth what is basically a late 1st

dude what he was literally 11th? where did u get he was fourth lol? and youre acting like "2 big goals" isnt what ended your guys season, in fact he scored 4, would you even know that? did you just stop watching after 2 games... and only a sorry fan would throw in two injuries and like that was the diference maker to them getting swept lmao

    https://www.hockey-reference.com/awards/voting-2023.html#all-selke-stats

Selke, Staal was 4. Backlund was 6. Hintz was 11,

You're acting like the Canes losing their second best forward didn't impact them in a series where every goal was a once goal game? I didn't mention Pacioretty. Teravainen had his hand broken in the Islanders series. That's half the top six either unavailable or playing through serious injuries. That's a fact, and it made a huge difference. Say they were all healthy and they each score a single goal. Just one, and Svech probably scores more than that. That series goes to game 7 because each game was a one goal game. Tkachuk had 2 big goals, and he had 4 totals. But you probably weren't watching since the Flames missed again

Staal is the fitter player... he's the fittest dude on the Canes and is the only one who can keep up with Rod
