odd men out and fa targets

*all the contracts are placeholders and not actual deals*

Deangelo would be our walmart brand Karlsson. He is a good offensive d man and should pair well with Graves or Pettersson. We have leaders like Sid, Geno, and Letang who should be able to whip him into shape in the locker room so he’s not a cancer.

Tatar is a good middle 6 winger who can pot some goals. he’s got good speed too. could imagine him taking a 2 year deal and try to get some more money when the cap goes up. He would tremendously help our bottom 6.

Suter is a good defensive bottom 6 forward. I know we need some scoring but grabbing a guy who can play LW or C and can provide good defensive play would be a great grab. could also imagine him taking a 2 year deal to try to make some more money. Plus he’s only 27.

Comtois, Gregor, Puljujarvj, Shaw, White, and Bellows are all young guys who could take 1 year “prove it” deals. Play them all in the bottom/middle 6 and see what they do. Also add a layer of youth to one of the oldest teams in the league.

Bear, Benoit, Foote, and Jones are all young defensemen who would be inexpensive and would provide youth to one of the oldest teams in the NHL. other guys would need to be moved out in order to sign any of them but if guys like Jospeh, Smith, Rutta, and Petry are moved in a Karlsson trade these guys could be the answer to fill out the last 2 spots.

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. 2024 5th round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. DeSmith, Casey
Additional Details:
Placeholder team

At this point we have 5 goalies with NHL experience and 8 total. We need to move one and I see DeSmith as the odd man out. Return should be about a 5th rounder.
2.
PIT
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (ARI)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
3rd OR 4th
ARI
  1. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
Placeholder team

Rutta could be moved to any contender who wants to bolster their 3rd pair/depth. He adds size and physicality. But at almost 3 Mil, he’s going to be the odd man out on D. his return should grab a 3rd or 4th, depending on which team and how badly he is needed.
3.
PIT
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (BUF)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
2nd OR 3rd
BUF
  1. Rust, Bryan
Additional Details:
Placeholder team.

Rust is an aging forward, and that showed last year. He is still capable of a top 6 role, but with the hefty 5.1 mil contract, I could potentially see him getting moved. if the penguins suck this year I could see him get moved at the deadline for a 2nd or 3rd, depending on performance and which team.
4.
PIT
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (CGY)
CGY
  1. Petry, Jeff
Additional Details:
Placeholder team

Petry is interesting here. If we want Karlsson, Petry will have to move, but I don’t see that happening. He has a beefy contract and a 15 team no trade list. I could see him getting moved with retention for a 3rd , but it would have to be to a team willing to take him on and one that he wants to go to. there are probably slim to no teams lining up to take him.

You know the max NHL roster size is 23, right?

You’re using 7.75 million dollars in cap space more than you need to be.

didn’t think I had to explain that not everybody on the roster would be signed, they’re just TARGETS, better yet I already wrote that the contracts they got were just place holder numbers. didn’t know people on this sight were special…

The Walmart EK is actually Adam Boqvist and not Tony Deangelo

Good point. I’d like Boqvist + CBJ needs to move out RHD. Don’t know if he’s ready for a top 4 role or not tho.

Every team easily rejects these trades.

it’s not going to these teams, just showing what each player is worth, the ones with two picks are either pick not both.

I feel like he is, hes already proven to be a good OFD, he just needs to stay healthy, plus he still very young and has alot of room to grow and become a better two way dmen

Him and Graves would be a great pair. What do we think CBJ wants? plus this assumes a Petry trade

Oh yes I’m special, says the fella who spells “site” sight. And FYI I have seen numerous people on this site who don’t know such (to the learned armchair GM) basic information.

ah yes i made a typo! great job pointing it out! this is clearly not a final roster. it’s fa targets plus guys that i could see potentially getting traded. didn’t think i had to type everything out for you to understand it… it’s pretty obvious this isn’t a final roster man.

Doubtful the Pens are interested in any of those guys or they’d be signed by now, with the possible exception of Comtois, who’s on ice until the results of the SA investigation.

CBJ would most likely take picks so they can hopefully flip them for a center. Getting Boqvist would not mean Petry is out 100%. If we were to get him, I could see us flipping Jan Rutta and moving Petry down to the 3rd pair to play with POJ and Gives Sully 3 really solid dpairs. But Petry could also be traded in this scenario to another team.

No, any team would reject these offers. You have highly overvalued your players.

My thoughts........ We know Petry blocks that - and Rust probably does too. Even if somehow they both agree to waive - the only forward out there better than Rust is Tarasenko - it's not worth trading Rust for any of the guys here imo.

And Petry is better than Deangelo. Sure these other guys might be better value, but we can't just build a team with a bunch of decent value bottom 6 guys. Plus we already have too many bottom 6 guys as is. Maybe they can dump Rutta/Granlund and pick up one of those guys like Suter or Tatar - that's all I really see happening
