I don’t want to give up Ostlund for one year of Hanifin. If we get a reasonable extension in place, maybe. I think we’re going to end up trading Krebs in a one year rental trade for Hellebuyck. I feel like Krebs, UPL, and a 2nd or a prospect like Kisakov is the best Winnipeg is going to do without an extension in place for him. And Mittelstadt might command more money than Buffalo can go after next season. So, that means Ostlund and Walhberg become even more important pieces as young, cost controlled centers in a couple of years on what should be a cup contender.

You're reading it on CF. Sabres shouldn't be giving up much for an unneeded LHD. Sabres and Hanifan really isn't a match.

I don't see it as a match either, but I'm reading it from Friedman that Florida and Buffalo are the teams interested in Hanifan.

I'm just assuming he'd be willing to resign. With Thompson and cozins locked up long term, even if they lose Krebs they have savoie to fill the 3C spot. I just don't see a roster spot for Ostlund.

Well writers/reporters have to try to stay relevant. So they can say anything they want to look important and knowledgable. Gee counting the Flames there should be 32 teams interested in Hanifan. So really new information did Friedman actually convey by his statement about Florida and Buffalo......NOTHING.

What would it take to get Andersson if Hypothetically he became available:
2024 1st, Savoie, Rosen, Poltapov, Joker get a convo started

I don’t follow your logic here
We won’t trade Ostlund bc he’s a young cost controlled center,
but u do think we’ll trade Krebs (who is the same)
No offense, just doesn’t make sense to me

Everything i know/have heard is that the Sabres are OUT of the Hanifin sweepstakes

We’ve talked to CGY for a while about him,
but decided they wanted too much & moved on- as evidenced by us signing 2 defensemen on July1

Pretty sure the Sabres are out

It's hard to imagine going after another big name lefty d, especially one that needs a new contract. I think no matter how you look at this it doesn't make sense- unless Clifton bombs with power, and hanifin agrees to a reasonable contract, and still there's questions about fit, with your top 4 defensemen all left handed. I'm not buying that granato and adams don't care about handedness, they just signed two righties to balance the roster.

Krebs is due for a raise and so is Mittelstadt. And Krebs is already a useful player, which I think Calgary wants more than a prospect. Plus, if Kulich's ELC slides again, you could have Kulich, Ostlund, and Savoie at 3 years for under a million each. You can replace Krebs with them and spend the 3-4 million he would cost to help keep Mittelstadt and extend Quinn and Peterka. And as always with Calgary, if I'm going to send significant assets to them, I'd rather add and make a play for Andersson as I have personally done about 8 times on this site.

I don’t think Krebs is going anywhere
His raise won’t be all that significant, and
He’s developing into a real nice 2way forward, and
We obviously think pretty highly of him to put him on a line with our Captains that plays the tough defensive assignments

Plus, he was a “must have” piece in the Eichel trade

Also, we aren’t trading for Hanifin
CGY wanted too much, so we moved on & signed those defensemen on July1

I think they will put whoever works best together no matter what hand they are.
