20 man roster is going to be crushing throughout the season. But unless y'all can move another contract I don't see any other way.

If they do the above they'll get enough to call up a 750k player fairly fast. But it would be a gruelling few weeks/months. It's a really last option AND it requires Murray to go on ltir which isn't clear is possible

Exactly. But if you buy out Murray then (I think) you're stuck with 20 players for even longer. Unless they pay a team a king's ransom to take on Murray's contract, they're likely screwed.

The LTIR system is definitely going to have to be revamped, but if he's not hurt......he's not hurt. I know Tampa and Vegas got away with some stuff, but both of those players at least couldn't play the required amount of games due to legitimate injury. I saw one guy claim that it would be fine, they would just cycle players through LTIR. Just yikes......

Some fans seem convinced he's concussed out of a career. I don't buy it at all. He was cleared for the playoffs.

Correction Dubas messed up.

Dubas followers love to say Lou screwed him by leaving him Marleau.

Guess what Dubas screwed Trelving by leaving him Murray.

Dubas made plenty of mistakes, but treliving set himself up for these issues this summer. Had he just not signed Klingberg he'd be fine.

Mike Smith was cleared for the playoffs in the spring, than he failed the summer's team physical.

It can happen.

Had Dubas not signed J.T. he would have been fine not to trade so many assets to get rid of Marleau and Zaitsev.

So Dubas set himself up also.

Dubas created an unsustainable cap situation in Toronto and I'm positive it's the reason he left. Brad coming in and immediately taking on Klingberg's contract was very, very not smart.

Imagine the 6 degrees of separation you can do on Dubas time with the Leafs, so many players were forced out of Toronto because Dubas signed J.T. to $11 million, when he already had a half a dozen young star players (Matthews, Marner, Nylander, C. Brown, Kapanen, Johnsson, etc.) coming off their elc to be resigned.

This is why the super young GM thing never works. I don't care how talented or smart you are, when you're young you make stupid mistakes you need to learn from. Dubas' stupid mistakes put the Leafs in this position. That being said, I have no doubt he will do A LOT better in Pittsburgh after learning from Toronto. But talk to anyone in any profession, going into a managerial position as a young person almost always leads to some headaches.

How can you say that, has he had his start of the season team physical yet>?

You can't buyout an injured player, maybe that's why Trelving hasn't used that option yet with Murray.

Maybe the team already know the answer about Murray's future.

I can't remember the Sens player name, but the Leafs traded for a Sens Dman and than bought him out, he put an Nhlpa greivance concerning it because he thought of himself as injured.

He was cleared to play last May.

Unless he suffered another injury since then, he can't be placed on LTIR.

It's that simple.

It's not that simple, concussions are a tricky injury.

I will blame dubas for plenty of things, but not for signing JT. I don't think there is a gm in the game who wouldn't have signed Tavares to that contract at the time. Marleau and zaitsev were both inherited terrible moves from Lou so I guess in that sense it is similar.

Honestly dubas managed the cap pretty dang well outside of messing up Matthews and marner (signing Matthews first when he had less point than marner then ending up in that stalemate with marner). But honestly it wouldn't have been as bad if the pandemic didn't hit and flattened the cap for the following 3-4 seasons that nobody saw coming.

His worst move, that nobody actually talks about, was retaining on the Kessel trade when he was interim gm for a couple months. That was like 5-6 years of 1.2 mil dead cap. Terrible. And the same amount marner was overpaid give or take.

1. Murray will need to miss 24 days and 10 regular season games to qualify for LTIR.

2. Murray and his entire cap hit will need to be activated if he's cleared to play again at any point next season.

3. No team can go over the cap at any point during the regular season.

4. After this week, the next buyout window won't be until June of next year.

5. The Leafs need to clear cap asap.

Cowen, yes, the Leafs traded for his contract with the intention of buying it out, Cowen had cleared an end of season team physical with the Sens then when he came to Toronto that summer he got another doctor to declare him unfit to play and the Leafs fought with both the Sens (for falsifying the injury report) and NHL wanting to uphold the buyout or void the trade.

Cowen accepted the buyout.

If he enters training camp and fails the team physical, the 1 month or 10 games rule doesn't apply and he goes straight to LTIR.

This is why team physicals happen 1 month before the start of the season, so all LTIR players do their 24 days missed and Nhl teams don't have to stress about the waiting period.

If the team doctor claims he is starting the training camp healthy and then gets injured, yes the waiting period comes into effect.
