Why would we trade for Merrill when we just need to sign Bahl?

Is the gap between Hart and Vanecek that large? I would concedes that Hart is better, but not by this much.

This isn’t even close to enough. You want ur division rival’s 24 year old starting goalie? That’s a big overpay for any two division rivals not just flyers devils

Merrill is unnecessary since we have Bahl and Hart is too expensive to be worth it especially given his volatile track record

Hart need a new deal after this year.... again with the panic trades.. GET IT UP FFS. Just stop with the goalie trade i know 85% of the devs fan and everyone is panicking about their goalie situation meanwhile the other 15% who are just chilling be like the 15% and STOP.

Explain please? Horrible trade for the Flyers here. A 24 year old goalie with 200 games experience already, who is a franchise goalie already and still 3 years away from his prime, for a worse goalie and a 1st that will probably be in the late 20's?

Yeah, no, pass.

Exactly! Hart is
22-23 in 22-23, 2.94/.907
13-24 in 21-22, 3.16/.905
9-11 in 20-21, 3.67/.877
24-13 in 19-20, 2.42/.914
16-13, 2.83/.917

You have to go back 3 yrs to his good yrs. YEs, he's a good G but cmon he's not Shesty! And sure in division will cost bit thats just a dumb return that Fitz will NEVER do. If he would he'd be a Dev already.

Sure where should I start, lets go to wins. 33 wins this year for Vancek, Hart (22 Ws) has not won 30 since the WHL VV was 8th in Ws this yr, 13th in GAA ahead of Shesty, best turnaround in NHL history with him in net. 13 game win streak. Hart has value but VV is not far behind him AND thats going on Hart's suggested trajectory, not what he's done, which is kind of mediocre to this point. In division does up the price, not to the value suggested. I'd rather get the real deal in Hellebuyck as a rental and convince him to sign for less on a contender the next handful of yrs.

Comparing wins from a playoff team to a team who was 7th worst, isn't the best barometer in my opinion. Over a full season, a great goalie still won't be able to put up stats as he would on a team with a solid defensive structure. The Devils were one of the best 5v5 teams in the league, the Flyers were close to the bottom. You could've put Roy back there and his numbers would be way off his usual stats. 22 wins on a team that won only 31 games and playing 67% of the games, I think shows you not only the ineptitude of a team in flux, learning a new system with new players, but also a goalie who deserved a little bit better in terms of his numbers. As evidenced by him being 10th last year in goals saved above expected.

Hart is better and looking at his future his potential and value are even that much higher. It's really not a debate and any NHL executive, at this point right now, would take Hart over VV any day of the week.

Hart is better than Vitek. But that was not the question.

Is the gap between the two so great that it would need to be filled by a 1st? Not sure it would for us…without seeing what Harts next contract looks like.

I guess I should have been more clear, but I don't think how there is any doubt that the gap between VV and Hart is at least a first. It also depends how you guys view Schmid - is he your answer now and in the future? If so, nothing would be worth trading for Hart.

IMO, Hart would push the Devils to the top contender in the East, without a doubt. VV or Shmid so do not do that right now. I think if you view the Devils w/ Hart as I do, you make that trade, even if you think you're giving up a little too much.

If you'd rather go the route of Helly, that's fine, but he's going to cost you more against the cap, and unlike Hart, he may start to fade towards the end of it. Hart, will only be at most 31, so the value you get from his contract now is much greater than that of Helly.

How big of a part did it play? You guys were a top 3 scoring offense and top 10 on both the PK and PP. I know the goalie is your most important PK guy, but the team around him helps as well.

I don't think you can honestly say that you feel comfortable with VV or Shmid with where your team is at now. You guys as built are probably a top 3 team in the east, with Goalie as your achilles heel.

I don’t think we are looking to add a goalie (maybe a depth goalie since Daws is hurt). Vanecek was better than Hart last season. He just had a few bad games in playoffs. And Schmid is on track to eventually take over for him. So I think we are good.

Show me what Adin Hill did last year (before the playoffs) I really have no problem with our Gs, after the previous year where we had 8 guys playing (much like Vegas did btw). Upgrade the G sure, but if Hill and Kuemper who are both vanilla can win, it doesnt bother me like it might others. As you said were top 3.
