The Nylander trade is a terrible idea, here are some reasons:

1) Anderson might be considered a Leafs killer but the situation would be x10 times worse if it were Nylander there instead. MTL would then have a top 6 that definitely would be in the position to compete for a spot in the Atlantic the backend can hold up.

2) Anderson might get his point pace up to 50/82GP (25-30G), at 4M that might seem great in comparison to 85-90 pts (30-40G) for Nylander @ 9.75M +/- 0.25M. Although, Anderson probably only actually gets ~42/43 pts in 70ish games if he's playing with Marner or Matthews (maybe could work well with Domi+Tavares). If not I would expect him to get the same amount of points that he did in MTL (32 pts in each of the last two seasons) or less if the pressure gets to him.

3) The value that Nylander brings for the season at ~7M is going to be far greater than Anderson at 4M.

Thats nuts.
Nylanders been their most consistent player when it matters in the playoffs.
Anderson was our least consistent player in the playoffs.
Why are we arguing this just to see him beat up on the leafs in the regular season 6-8 times a year?

This makes no sense , its like playing Checkers with Chess pieces. . .It lacks Wisdom.
My question becomes is TML so cap locked that losing Nylander for less is the best option ?
I know there's only 3-4 teams capable of taking him on and half them passed on him at that cost with term.
MTL is in a position where Caufield-Suzuki-Nylander allows us to develop Dach at 2C while having a top NHL line capable of stealing the show.

Sure overpaying sucks but as long as he gets no Contract Protections who cares?
Cap can always be moved and Nylander took more last time giving up Protections to get it.
I wouldnt be surprised is he did that again this time to get 9.5m with signing bonus's

Yes! We have to try something different. I'm not into change for only change sake but. we have to make a realistic change and go away from a Core that takes most of our Salary cap. Even though Nylander shows some grit in the Playoffs, I think it was evident we were lacking Players like Anderson and Zadorov when the going gets tough!

Retaining 1,5 on Anderson would be like paying Nylander 11,5 on his first 3 years of his new contract. No thanks
