So you want Carolina to take on Brodie and retain on Pesce... and you don't want to give up anything that helps the Canes to make that happen? No.

Try Lilly 1st Niemala for Pesce at his full cap hit. If you want to dump Brodie, that's going to cost assets. If you want retention, it's going to cost more. This isn't enough for Pesce. Brodie is a cap dump, Robertson cannot stay healthy, A 7th and a 4th are not doing anything. Niemala and a 1st is fine, but it's missing a young D man

A massive overpay by the Leafs just to get 2m in cap relief on the Pesce/Brodie exchange. Niemela and the 1st are way too much

I feel like i'm going crazy. How good do people think Pesce is?

He's a very solid middle paring d-man. Getting a 1st, and two very solid prospects are completely absurd even with retention. and he's on an expiring deal. A first straight up or a 2nd and a decent prospect should get a deal done for Pesce.

Pesce was on Carolina's top pairing last year... he's a top 10 RHD league wide... a 1st + young D man + prospect is the ask, because Carolina have absolutely no need to move him. It's why they're trying to re-sign him.

I don't see why you view Brodie as a cap dump. He was a solid defenceman last year and would easily slide into Carolina's top 4. Both he and Pesce are on expiring contracts. Leafs would be giving up their top d prospect, a first, plus giving Carolina a flier on Robertson as well as a replacement level player in Brodie for the year. The additional 4th and 7th are gravy in my opinion.

As a LHD, he's not making Carolina's top six. He's not better than Orlov or Slavin, and Skjei is coming off a 17 goal season. Rod doesn't play D men on their off side, so cap dump. Robertson cannot stay healthy. He's got no value. This isn't enough for Carolina to consider this
