we aren't giving any high-end caliber guys for Laffy here, however, we are giving 3 really solid middle 6 guys who would be the type of players to sign ridiculously cheap contracts with MTL. For this to be worth it for MTL, Laffy needs to become one of the best 2nd line wingers in the league at least

Canes could use that money elsewhere, they have plenty of bottom 6 wingers. Armia doesn't make the lineup over Martinook, Fast, Noesen, etc.

Not close to being worth it for the Rangers as well

Again, if Laffy reaches something near his potential, then yes, NYR is getting robbed, but as of now, the trajectory is probably an above-average 2nd-line winger of 50-60 pts. NY receives Beck, a possible 40-50 pt guy, Farrell, 20-65 pt guy depending on development and opportunity, and RHP, 30-45 pt guy, plus a good AHLer. MTL is giving an extremely good future middle 6 line that could cost 7-10 mil if good negotiations on the contracts are done. I'm fine with giving that for a 70-85 pt guy, but not for a 50-60 pt guy

This doesn't help the Rangers in 23-24, which is what they care about most, in addition to what you said. Sure maybe it could turn out to be a steal in 3-4 years, but none of those guys are putting as many points as Laf did last year this season.

That is very true, NY is a win now team and should definitely focus on win now players. In the end, I could see MTL possibly accepting this, but it is probably better off for this trade not to happen

rangers are in win now with some cap issues ,they do have some prospects but habs would have to offer anderson with a cap retain and a high pick or prospect.
