The biggest problem here is that the offer just doesn’t fit Winnipeg’s plan. They’re still trying to contend and make playoffs and picks and prospects don’t help that. For that reason, I’d say this is likely passed over unless they fall out of the playoff race by the deadline then maybe they’ll consider something like this

My personal opinion is that if it's true that Hellebuyck doesn't want to stay in Winnipeg, he needs to be moved ASAP to get maximum value. From WPG's side, this move probably comes paired with a goalie addition, such as Ullmark.

You have to understand that the Devils have to pay Mercer and SChmid next season and then Hughes so why would getting helly make sense cuz your not extending him to his demands and mostly likely will lose him to FA or he will have to be traded again. Helly want 8m+ 5+ yrs and the devils have better mouths to feed. Quit the panicking over their goalie situation. Plus your not getting a third team to eat money plus Vitek would have to go the other way, Daws is hurt for most of the season so again bad trade.

This is a rental price I am perfectly happy to pay, and if he makes more reasonable demands there's no reason to believe we can't fit him. Schmid's next deal would be cheap here since he'd be in Utica, and his following deals would be cheaper as long as he is second fiddle to Hellebuyck.

When the cap crunch comes, Palat will have a 10 team trade list, Haula will have a 6 team no-trade list, both can be bought out for reasonable prices, and our depth can be replaced by cheaper alternatives.

I would live with it. But with little chance of an extension, I highly doubt Fitzy gets further than kicking the tires here.

I think we could convince him to take a reasonable extension. Even if we can't, I see this a lot like the Meier trade. High quantity of assets but nothing that hurts us significantly. For a rental at our one position of weakness, it's worth it. Wins us a cup.

You should try one that the Jets would actually consider

Nobody is gonna pay much more than this for a 31 year old UFA asking for an 8x9.5 extension

No need to be rude. Obviously he's not getting that, but if that's his ask it's still gonna be an ugly contract. He's UFA, he can just walk

The team most likely to give Hellebuyck an ugly contract are the Jets (enough to get him to re-sign). Cheveldayoff is about to start year 13 of his 5-year plan and even he must be wondering if Chipman's fierce loyalty has a limit.

And that will have been a terrible mistake when you sneak into the playoffs and lose in the first round, again

Not really, a late 1st 2nd and two throw away prospects aren't enough to not take another(probably the last) run with this core

I really don't think this Jets team is even close to good enough to make a deep run

You probably didn't think Vegas, St Louis, Dallas, Montreal were either

Vegas and Dallas were absolutely good enough. Vegas was great this year. Montreal was a rare occurrence, I think most people would agree they were a fluke. St. Louis I didn't follow very closely

I get the point you're making, that there's a lot of luck in the playoffs, but this Jets team could easily miss the playoffs entirely. In fact, if not for Calgary's incompetent coaching staff they would have missed this year.

Not saying I think they're going to win but that return isn't worth not atleast trying imo another year under bones system, wheeler out of the top 6, Brossoit coming in as backup, nice 2 way horse adds in Iafallo and Villardi replacing lazy bones Dubois, a healthy Perfetti all positives in my book.

If you watched the first game against Vegas and Winnipeg in the playoffs they dominated without Ehlers, then lost Scheifele and Morrissey and didn't stand much of a chance with those loses to the lineup, people sleep on the Jets core

The Jets core is good but I feel the reason the Jets haven't started rebuilding is Cheveldayoff has been there for 12 year with only 3 rounds won is on the hot seat now. If they don't do anything this year he might be gone.
