Ok but what if there's an extension in place

Depends what the extension looks like. If its a good deal then maybe, but even with Hanifin they still aren't going to win the cup so this trade is a little useless for an aging pit team who should have entered rebuild mode already. To many old people with terrible contracts to make a run. Pitt would have to shed cap in this deal too

True but that's why Granlund is moved to CHI. To help make them closer to the cap ceiling. And for the extension how about 7.75 x 5 years or 7 x 4 years

Yeah, but Chicago isnt going to eat 5 million dollars without getting anything to do so, they are actually giving picks up for someone to dump cap on them. but thats a decent deal for hanifin, if youre giving him that kind of money it would be nice to lock him in for 8 years but nonetheless i think dollar amount is fair

Calgary would accept that. No retention and no cap coming back being the deciding factors. They get cap space and trade capital to help acquire the top 6 right shot winger they need.

Calgary then follows up by trading for William Nylander and signing both Lindholm and Nylander to matching 9 mil AAV extensions. smile

Hawks aren’t at the point in their rebuild where they will trade draft capital for 34 year old veterans.

I agree, they are essentially paying someone draft picks to dump cap
