Apparently you don't know how a rebuild works..... Trading players on expiring deals for draft picks and young players is what you do. Moron

I do. What are the Kings going to do with yet another backup goaltender? They already have 3 of them under contract. They at least have a roster spot for Lizotte.

I wouldn't even do this if Calgary retained 50% on Vladar.

I'd take either Talbot and Copley over Vladar every day of the week.

I'm not sure why everyone is hating on Copley. He just smashed franchise records to become the fastest goaltender in Kings history to 20 wins. Talbot just put up better numbers than Vladar while playing for a significantly worse team. Even Rittich's numbers were better than Vladar's last season.

I was totally with you in this thread until this point. People claiming Vladar would be some kind of massive goalie upgrade seem to have an agenda, and I don't agree with them. But let's not sit here and pretend that Copley is a hidden gem that is just underrated by other fanbases. He will be platooning with 36 year old Talbot because of the cap situation, not because he's the ideal solution in net.

I generally agree with you though. The Kings should stand pat in net for now and see how things go as the season progresses. The strategy seems to be to lock up an excellent center core at the cost of, lets call it "value goaltending". Pairing that with a sound defense might be the winning formula in 2024. And until they see how that goes, there is no reason to change course.

I never said he was a gem. I don't know that he'd be good on other teams. I personally think goaltenders are a product of the team they play for, and Copley has shown he can play winning hockey behind THIS Kings team. I'm not saying the Kings should give him a Markstrom contract, just that they shouldn't be going out of their way to replace him either.

If a guy like Saros became available in a deal that made sense, then I'd be all about it. I don't think the Kings should empty the pipeline, overpay on an extension, or give up assets for goaltenders that aren't an improvement over what the Kings currently have in the system.

That certainly seems to be how it played out for Vegas this year. One thing I am starting to learn is that goaltending is much higher variance than a sound D system with guys who can stay healthy. But a shaky goaltender can definitely sink a team too, no matter how well the D plays.
