Avs Team 24-25

Created by: Oscarjson
Team: 2024-25 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 1, 2023
Published: Aug. 1, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think, with the cap moving up further, the Avs could have a very potent and promising team already within the system for 24/25 season. And still have money left. The right development is of course crucial on some of these players. A Devon Toews extension is not completely out of the picture, or if you would want to go for a top six forward. You could also save your big extensions for the following year with Byram and Rantanen needing new contracts.

Not resigning toews will be a huge mistake imo

I'd prefer to move manson and resign toews, there's plenty of cap to make that work with over a mil left over for the 22nd player

I’d rather move Manson and keep Girard. Girards age and contract certainly > Manson

Mansons physicality and positional fit for the team > Girards small frame and skill set

Lol. I don’t disagree with you often, but we couldn’t be any further apart on this.

Girard doesn’t have the best track record health wise but Manson makes him look like an Ironman candidate with all those missed games and injuries. You think COLs D core is soft? Byram and Makar don’t shy away from playing physical. Heck, even Girards 67 hits in 76 games isn’t that bad

Behrens and Makinski as a combo would get destroyed particularly by heavy forechecking AND cycle heavy teams like LV and SEA.

his physicality for the 40ish games we actually get to see him for will be great. Unfortunately, along with the many, many penalties he'll take.

Girard is worth more and is easier to trade, so it might end up being Girard gone over Manson when all is said and done, but Manson is much, much more replaceable. Physical 3rd line defensemen are like a stereotype.

You can't predict injuries, Girard broke his sternum in the playoffs, Manson played all 20..

Manson is the better fit for the team going forward in my opinion, who's going to PK?

Toews and JJ?
Byram and makar?

You keep Manson and he PKs and you don't waste a Byram makar on the PK...

We lost a big body with EJ leaving.. you don't want Byram and makar picking up that slack with their own injury problems

It’s quite simple.

Makar QB PP1
Girard QB PP2

Toews-Byram PK1
Girard - whoever PK 2

To think you’d rather keep Manson for the 1 year remaining versus the multiple years of Girard is rather short sighted

Okay but Manson has 3 yrs left and Girard has 4?
And toews is the guy running PP2, with Byram as the heir apparent...

But apples and oranges, I think they need big defensive dmen in their bottom 4, you think they need small skilled guys with 1 more year of contract remaining... let's part as friends

I think you have Byram qb PP2 he has the best slap shot of the dmen and is every bit the passer Girard is, but it’s kinda moot imo because you have both of them on PP2, the big thing for me is you try to limit Makar’s PK minutes to just keep his minutes down. My two cents

Makar doesn’t PK in my scenario.
PP1 should be getting the first 90 seconds, doesn’t really matter to slot Byram over Girard for whatever remaining 30 seconds are left. The difference is negligible given how little time PP2 gets

Girard's skillset meshes with the team's style much better than Manson. Manson had a good playoff run then followed it up with a season where he played 27 games. He'll be 32 when the season starts and makes too much money. They can find a guy that play 3rd pair minutes and brings physicality for less than the $4.5 Manson makes.

If they can find a way to make him fit while also ensuring that the rest of the team is good enough, I'm all for it. But at $8Mx6-7, that's going to be tough; Dunn's contract put Toews in that range.
