As a Pens fan, I don't like this. I don't think we need anymore bottom 6 forwards, and moving POJ and Rutta absolutely depletes the defensive core.

This is probably the best we could do heading into season. Like that we have money to spare for TDL. With the picks remaining and the cap we could get someone like Vrana realistically.

We're losing POJ and Rutta and adding Erik Karlsson. That's as big of an upgrade as you can get. And the bottom 6 is not good right now in terms of offensive production. We definitely need more help there.

We have like 10 NHL defenseman between PIT and WBS. We can spare Rutta and POJ

How is the bottom 6 a disaster when the majority haven't had a full time role on this team yet? We added Eller, Acciari, Johnsson, Nylander (hopefully full time), Nieto, Hinostroza, etc. I think it is improved and will be shut down lines. I like Rutta as a bottom pair RD, and I think it is a mistake to move on from POJ.

Easily. The defense is not good right now as is. Not good enough to win a cup at all. The defense was awful last year in terms of the transition game and Karlsson solves that. We have Smith to replace POJ and Rutta the contract is just too big when we have Ruhwedle who isn't a significant downgrade for much less.

Something like that DET trade might be a great option for moving Petry out. Not sure DET is the exact team to do it, but there might be some team where a 1 for 1 swap could make sense and PIT wouldn't have to give up assets to get it done. Interesting proposal. But I doubt SJS would take Chiarot.

It's a disaster in terms of offensive production. Who do we have that can step up when someone in the top 6 get's hurt? We've had the same problem the last 2 years of the core and top 6 having to absolutely carry the team offensively. We need to give them support. Eller is good defensively, Acciari is a nice add, and Nieto is fast. That's a great 4th line right there. But then who plays the 3rd line? Granlund Carter and Nylander? That would be a complete mess. We have no one who can bring offense. Johnson and Hinostroza are good depth signings, but aren't locks to make the roster. And Nylander only had 2 points in 9 games last year and didn't produce much offense. So year it is an issue offensively. Do you really think it will hurt us moving on from Rutta and POJ when we get Karlsson in return? Getting the Norris winner and trading our two third pair guys to me is easily worth it. The defense was a mess end of last year in terms of defending and transition game. It needs a major shakeup. Our defense as is is no where close to competing for a cup.

We don't need anymore defensive depth forwards true..... but offensive depth forwards absolutely Carter is literally one year from retirement (THANK GOD) and is abysmal on the ice.... he can win all the faceoffs he wants in every other aspect he is a pylon. Nylander even given time with Geno's line couldn't produce offensively (unfortunately he's just not even a fraction as good as his brother) DOC is serviceable but needs complimentary line mates. If Granlund looked like 2017-21 Granlund he'd be a great 3rd line forward, but he's well past that now. Even if we just got one of the 2 here I'd be a lot happier with the makeup of the team than its current construtcion.
