Not sure Zac Jones has done enough to warrant receiving a 2nd at this time. But regardless, the Blues have an absolute glut of defenseman are 3rd pairing/fringe guys. Jones probably has some upside, but we need to figure out what we have first before giving NHL time to someone not named Perunovich in that ilk

Ok let's say Minnesota is out of the playoff race somehow, they'll definitely want more for that combo. Playing Goodrow over Hartman would a waste too, Hartman is better.

I agree with you just didnt want the fourth line to be all left handed forwards. They could be interchangeable.

How do you think you'd accrue that much cap space?

As of now if you signed Laf for $3m you'd be over the cap by $800k roughly....so if you send down one player and run on 22....you just get by. Is the plan to run with just one spare player ALL year to accrue that much room?

Realistically Laf signs for more like 2.7m and they run a 22 man roster leaving them with 350k of cap space which would accrue to 1.2m at the deadline. They can accrue more by sending Schneider to the AHL on off days(since he's waiver ineligible) or through injuries, or if they're really desperate they can run a 21 man roster. It's gonna be tight but there are things Drury can do to make things work out for the deadline.

btw 22 means they have 2 spare players, not 1.

But what I said was...as of now the Rangers have about $2.2m in cap space. If Laf was $3m, then they'd have to run on 22 to get to the cap. Then I said if the Rangers wanted to try and accrue space, they could try running on 21 and let that extra $800k or so build up, but that's not exactly a great plan to live on come the season involving injuries.

Welp, that's cap hell in a nutshell. We'll see what Drury ends up doing, there are ways other than running a smaller roster to accrue cap. But yeah it's gonna be tight :/

Minnesota isn’t going to touch that deal. They could get more for Hartman alone from a contender.
