Draft slots are irrelevant. Bergy was 2nd, March was 3rd. It’s about the player.

Merkulov was undrafted and is looking very much like a middle 6 center option. They are very high on Poitras.

They are just not desperate for centers, it is such a false narrative.

They are desperate for a #1. The rest are covered, short and long term.

I appreciate your optimism,
but i believe 2nd & 3rd rounder will become good NHLers when i see it
Bc the overwhelming majority do not

As a Sabres fan, I would not do this trade. While adding Ullmark would help a lot, I think losing Mitts would hurt us a lot this year. After the all-star break, he was a ppg player. With Quinn out for a good chunk of the season, we are going to need mitts offense if we are going to fight for a playoff spot.

True, out offense would take a hit
BUT
The Goaltending & Defense should also be much improved

Plus, we’d still have Cap room to make further moves to help the offense if it proved necessary to do so
And we have a few very talented prospects who could/should be ready to help

Also, I’m concerned about more than JUST this year

As a Bruins fan, I actually dont hate the idea or the package

Mitts had a great year and will get better, UPL might need a change + Levi upcoming, Henri would be a decent Carlo replacement, and Ostlund would be a nice C prospect

Its trading Carlo that Id be hesitant on, especially within the division. Sweeney and co seem to love Carlo, and as guy mentioned above, they wouldnt trade him for much bigger names in previous years. Hes also been a VERY solid shutdown guy for BOS, so it would take a lot to pry him away

Overall dont hate the idea, just maybe not the best trade partners, like the creativity though!

Thanks for the feedback

Yeah, i obviously realize Carlo would be tough to give up for u guys. My hope was that Mittelstadt would be enough value for u guys to do it.

To be clear, i don’t expect the Bruins & Sabres would actually pull a trade like this off on real life.
Just thought it was an interesting possibility between 2 rivals.

Appreciate your input, thanks

Sweeney loves Carlo too much but if Lohrei emerges as a dynamic top 4 dman that can play shutdown minutes It would be worth considering

I really like your team that has been built there and their long term outlook. Lots of pieces i’d like. Just don’t see the two teams fitting well for a trade. The pieces you’d want Boston does not want give up and vice versa.
Every team has certain players that their contributions extend beyond their statistics.
Samuelsson, Okposo and Girgensons are examples for Buffalo.
Reading your comments it is obvious that Carlo is one of the players for Boston that fit that description.

On paper Casey should be a good fit to center for Pasternak and Marchand.
So one would think a 70 pt center (yes he would exceed that playing between the two of them, just as he registered 17 points in 11 games with Skinner and Tuch on his wings) for a second pairing RHD is fair.

But as you correctly articulated, Sweeney would say no.
That my friends is the bottom line no matter how good the offer may appear on paper.
