Only One Move Needed

Created by: jcambers
Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 3, 2023
Published: Aug. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
All UFAs, other than Hanifin, have stated that they want to see "how things go this year" before signing an extension - that means there's reserved optimism. Hanifin, however, has stated he's not coming back under any circumstances, so you've GOT to trade him now. He's really the only move that must be made pre-season (unless another comes out saying they're not coming back).

If Backlund signs an extension before the season, give him the C. If not, give it to Raz or Weegs.

I would be looking to get more back in the Hanifin trade. Hanifin is worth a 1st and Smith on his own. So if you're taking back Carter, I would want an additional 2nd, maybe even two of them; one for each year remaining in the contract.

Edit: Actually Carter expires this year, so maybe just one extra 2nd rounder

Leafs are not interested in either of those players.

If this was before the Pens signed Graves this is a definite yes. Not sure there's a need anymore, or how they would fit this under the cap

There's also the whole Carter as a full NMC and rejects being moved..... Not that Pens fans wouldn't be happy to get rid of him its just he rejects any and all trades.

Leafs decline, one of their top prospects and a pick for an AHL center and a depth goalie on our team for 2.2 just isn't what we need

Pens would accept but Carter would decline. And I’d also ask for Adam Klapka in the deal.
