Pretty fair, though I think this is more like half underrated players and half underrated 2 years ago players

Which ones specifically

Hintz (maybe by the general public still, but people that are hockey knowers like on this site he definitely gets the respect he deserves imo)
Spurgeon (same reason as Hintz)
Buch (Has put up b2b PPG+ szns and only reason I could see him considered underrated atm is because STL had a down year and hasn't got much talk as a team in general. He was playing this well when on NYR imo even though the point totals were lower and really wasn't recognized until the numbers blew up in STL, but I think he gets the respect he deserves now)
Saros (Idk, I mean I guess he's trending more towards 4/5 instead of 2/3 on goalie rankings rn, but that's just a product of recency bias and a very small thing, wouldn't say it's enough to call him underrated)
Danault ( Kinda similar to Buch with the point total thing. Everyone knew he could defend great, but recently people have actually realized he provides a lot of offense too)

There's a few more minor ones, but those are the main suspects I'm thinking of
(Not trying to hard dispute and argue either, just my thoughts on it haha)

Edit (cause someone will probably comment on it lol) re:hockey knowers - Yeah, there's idiots on this site 100%, but general level of knowledge regarding the league, player values, ect is way better than your average twitter user for instance.

A good list in general I would say. There are some players I feel aren't all that underrated anymore but have been in the near past, namely:
Hintz - Widely regarded as a good/great player
Mercer- Have seen many people beeing vocal about him, on here atleast
Hughes - Don't really think he's flying under the radar anymore
Saros - He has been considered to be top 5 or top 10 for years, has he not?
My views on this are however based in large part on what I read on capfriendly forums.

Thing about guys like Mercer is that they are just starting their careers. This kid is only 21 with two seasons under his belt ... he's been plenty good, but given the limited impact he has has so far (due to time in league) he gets plenty of kudos/press/respect etc. I always think of underrated guys as players who have been around awhile, flying under the radar for several seasons, but hey, that's just me. We all have different definitions. Hintz was similar until he blew up in 21/22, then we all knew

Hughes is underrated in the sense that he is arguably a top 5-10 defenseman, but people won’t recognize that. People think Dahlin and Heiskanen are a tier above Hughes despite the fact that Hughes has better numbers this season, and over their entire careers

I get what you're saying and I agree, you have to have some history of playing good without beeing noticed before you should be regarded as underrated.

Yeah you have a point there, Hughes may still be underrated in that regard, by some atleast. Not by me though, I think he's great 🙂

I think Hughes, Dahlin, and Miro are all in the same tier. Hughes is just the more underrated of the three.

Kinda weird thinking about a Hughes brother being underrated, given the insane hype the other two fellas get, but I guess that's what happens when the puck drops for Quinn when the East Coast is going to sleep. Exposure is everything

I'm pretty active on hockey social media. Twiiter, insatagram, etc. Rarely ever see people talking about how good Quinn is, likely because he's just on a crap team that doesn't get too much media coverage compared to it's other canadian counterparts.

I'm on east coast & would enjoy seeing him more, but alas, nucks are never on national broadcasts. Recent GMs probably sealed their fate with some poor signings. I'd have trouble figuring out how they wiggle free of some of those dogs. Guess rising cap may bail them out in a couple of years, but moves will be difficult from here I suspect. At least it's a beautiful part of the country for Quinn, even if the work leaves something to be desired.
