I voted no in the poll, but after looking at it a little more, this isn't ~terrible~. I think giving him that contract after his first full season in the league is very risky. However, the fact that he can be traded in all but two seasons of the contract could be a good thing for Tampa if they ever need to move his contract.

Plenty of comps...we're on a website full of them.

RNH comes immediately to mind. 9.33 CH%. Hagel (if the cap is 87.5), would be at 7.4%, in which case, Hagel is a bargain.

As a BUF fan, if we still had Hagel and Montour, we would be a playoff team already.

I thought it would have been more like Nuge as well

I just looked and there's like over 70 people who think this is a bad deal so you're def biased a little bit. You never know how players are going to react after they get the big time bag either. Wish him the best, skeptical on the term and overall value

It's his second full season 81 30-34-64 last season
77 25-19-44 most of which was with a bad bad hawks team showing really good improvement while being 2nd amongst Fowards in take aways only to Marner in the league last year. He was a top PK guy as well . This is going to look like MacKinnons last contract type bargain in 2 years

No this is going to be a great signing and I'm eating my words I thought it was a massive overpay to get him .I was wrong

Imagine what the contract could have been if Hagel became a point per game player

RNH signed for 9.33%, which would be $8.16mm on a $87.5mm cap.

I mean they have good reason to speculative at this point, it's not even year 1 of the deal yet. Guess we'll check back in a few eh

Really if they watched his play and know anything about the lightning locker room they really don't. 77gp 25-19-44 mostly with a horrendous hawks team 81gp 30-34-64 nice improvement. 2nd amongst Fowards to Marner in the league in take aways. He was a top PK guy and is the epitome of hustle while having a bit of nasty in his game.

Does the 3:1ratio of people here saying Mathews signing was bad make it bad? I'm not comparing the player or contract really just the CF crowd reaction to the contracts. I think it comes down to a haters are going to hate thing in a lot of cases

Compare Hagel's poll to the Troy Terry one and it's obvious

Well I think he's good but this is a long deal. Tampa has a thing going so hey I'm not hatin, just sayin. I'd be more worried about Cirelli long term.

But either way they've shown they wanted to get younger by replacing Killorn and Palat long term with different guys. Now you just need them to show up in the playoffs the same way.

Hagel has better numbers is better defensively signed for less and has a more hated vote you're correct in agreeing with my point

Vote and comments obviously show people got no clue how good Hagel has been with Tampa.
He's no middle six winger, he's a top six winger, and we haven't even seen the best of him yet.

Awesome deal, extremely happy about this one.

And here we are, currently at 20G 33A in 57 games. On pace for 76 points this season with no PP1 time, which is nuts.
He's currently 6th in the NHL for even strenght points.

He's been playing mostly with Cirelli and Paul since december, with Stamkos playing with Kucherov and Point.

In 2024 he's been held pointless 3 games out of the 20 he's played in, and he's currently riding a 10 games points streak.
He's not a product of any superstar on the team, he's the one making it happen.

Hagel's GF% without Kucherov is 48% (via natural stat trick), similar number without Point

Hagel's most common line mates this year is Kucherov and Point (frozen tools)... They each have similar ice times at 5v5

Not saying Hagel's bad... Just pointing out that he's benefitting from circumstances
