The 2 1sts are the only things of interest here.

They still need place holders they don’t wanna do full rebuild

Hard pass from Red Wings. Too much draft capital to give up for two players on expiring contracts that are going to be looking for big raises next summer and could both potentially walk after one season.

We also really really like Ras and what he brings to the team.

This is assuming they extend them

not sure id want to extend them, definitely not both. they'll want 7-8 years. Yzerman would probably only offer 4, maybe 5. more likely they walk.

Lindholm is almost 30 as well. do we want to spend that kind of cash on a guy who will be 35 with an expensive contract not producing the same as he did when he was 26? not really. Hanifin is also a LD. Detroit is so overloaded with LD on the roster and in the prospect system. Edvinsson, Wallinder, Buium, and Johansson are all very solid LD prospects.

Lindholm would be good for the right price and term. Does he want out of Calgary or something? Why couldn't Calgary just re-sign him to 5 years, 8 million?

Yes Fabbri is there as a placeholder and to make cap work but Rasmussen and Veleno are depth players At this point. Calgary could still get 2 1sts and better prospects selling them separately

I thought we would be able to get a 1st back for Toffoli as well, and that didn't happen. That said, I also don't see the Flames trading both Hanifin and Lindholm for such a package, because that would signal the start of a rebuild. This organization is too stubborn to start one, they'll wait at least until the deadline before pulling the plug on the team.

I would be looking at getting one of Kasper/Danielson, as well as one of Johansson/Wallinder if I'm starting a rebuild. Obviously DET would be reluctant to give up such prospects for rentals.

Toffoli was traded for a player the same age and of similar caliber to Dube. I would say Dube is worth a late 1st which is about the value of Toffoli. The return we got for him was fine but not amazing, the market was a buyers market too so getting futures would be tough.

There is zero chance we would get Kasper and probably a low one on Danielson (though more likely). I agree that Calgary probably wouldn't be selling any time soon and I have a hard time seeing Detroit being a buyer at the deadline. They will probably sit below Calgary in the standings so overall this is just a bad choice on teams

Saying Rasmussen is a just a depth player proves you do not watch the red wings. he was injured around the 60 game mark and in the last 20 games his absence was really felt on the ice. Detroit was in a playoff spot and after he went down the wheels started to come off. It really showed his value on the team as they went from playoffs to finishing 15 points out.

Saying Rasmussen is just a depth player is like saying Anthony Cirelli is just a depth play on Tampa. They are very tough to play against 3rd line centers or 2nd line wingers. Last Season Stats.

Detroit passes. Detroit isn't trading Boston's 2024 1st. If Boston finishes in the bottom 10 that get that pick back and Detroit gets Boston's 2025 1st unprotected. If Boston finishes outside of the bottom 10 Detroit keeps that pick and then they have to give Ottawa either their own 2024 1st or Boston's 2024 1st. Since Detroit isn't making the playoffs they aren't giving away a lottery pick. Detroit is high on Rasmussen and he has improved every season and he has been putting a lot time in the gym building strength. Since Rasmussen is only 24 I wouldn't expect Yzerman to trade him for a season or 2.

I think you're right. I don't see Yzerman giving up the offer above.
