I think they decline because it shatters their center core. Tage and Cozens will be their 1-2 punch moving forward

Because I though adding Cooley with Knies would be good chemistry as they played together in the NCAA. So no point in having a $2M 4th liner Kampf.

That has one year left after this season at a much higher cap hit, then is going to want a huge short term contract again that won't even extend past how long cozens is signed for.

True. But if you look at it in terms of value and not if the player will resign, its a fair trade. Marner is better then Cozens, but Cozens salary makes the value even out imo.

The value *might* be accurate, but it makes no sense for the Sabres.

Would you do it if I threw in a 50% retained Johnny T, but you gotta also add a 2024 2nd rounder. Then I use that 2nd rounder for the Askarov trade with Nashville.

No, Sabres would rather keep their center core and cap flexibility

Seems like a silly statement here, cap hit and whether a player will resign affects the value of Marner, why would we trade a long term core piece for a guy that will want nearly double Cozen’s contract.

Because he is better.

Right now he is, No gurantee that will continue to be true. And the difference between them isn’t worth the 4 mil more he makes now, let alone when he wants 12-13 mil for his next contract.

There's also no guarantee that he resigns

Yes. ABSOLUTELY

Cozens is:
younger, a Center, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, he’s signed long term

Cozens is 100% UNTOUCHABLE, no matter what
The End
