Description

Open to removing the 2nd if CAR doesn't bite. But, figured with CAR defense the way it is, there is no room for Chatfield at the moment. Kubalik helps with scoring depth and Thomson gives them that scratched RD prospect (which OTT would lose to waivers anyway).

Chatfield and JBD can vie for the 3rd RD slot, with Hamonic there in the event of an injury.

"But CAR has zero cap space!" Yes they do. Send Lemieux and Kochetkov to the minors (since he's waiver exempt and you don't need 3 Gs) and bam, you've got the space and can still run a 23-man roster.

"CAR has zero interest in Kubalik. Great winger depth already." Well, damn. No argument against that so we'll keep looking.

So, I don't hate this value wise, but this does nothing for Carolina. Kubalik isn't good enough defensively to get a major role, but even in a minor role, is he better than Teravainen at 3 LW? Or Bunting? Probably not. On the right? Maybe? His totals may be comparable to someone like Stefan Noesen... more defensemen is the last thing the Canes need and they cannot send Thomson to the AHL because they have no AHL affiliate. Chatfield and the pick are probably on the table, but this doesn't make a *ton* of sense

I think the idea makes sense, just maybe not the right team to trade with as I don’t know if Kubalik really fits there.

Chatfield would then be the 8th D-man? Thomson could too then. Just trade Kubalik for a pick. Finding the right team seems to be the hardest
