Though it is great value it depends on the direction Calgary decides to go in.

Having guys like huberdeau/ kadri/ Coleman/ weegar and potentially lindholm locked up long term and then most likely losing zadorov/ hanifin/ Tanev via trade or UFA does it make sense to move away your #1 dman and completely cripple your defence. You’d be putting a lot of pressure on weegar aswell as management to figure out a way to find 3 top 4 dman via trade or the next few years of UFA.

With the amount of cap they will be freeing up soon I think it’s better they wait and do a quick retool rather then just blow everything up

Like I mentioned in the other rework trade thread Andersson isn't available and he's likely the future captain of the Flames.

If you insist on making up Andersson trades here's a counter offer that would fit what CGY is trying to do:
To CGY: Tuch
To BUF: Andersson

Tuch is from Buffalo so he will almost certainly play out the rest of his career there. Andersson should not be remotely available for anyone unless Calgary decides to blow it up

You did read the first paragraph, right? Sabersforlife is just a bit obsessed with Andersson in the previous couple of threads.

I know Andersson for Tuch won't happen. However, trading Andersson is much like trading Tuch IMO. Something Sabers fans would have little appetite for.

I get that but getting a #1 defenseman is far harder than getting a top 6 winger. Also Buffalo has way more replacements in their pipeline for Tuch than Calgary does for Andersson, especially when you consider the Flames have 3 core defensemen on expiring contracts

I don't think i would trade Andersson for that. I'd need a better roster player back than Jokiharju

Sabres fans will consider me to be a traitor, but To CGY: Tuch/To BUF: Andersson is fair deal.
Tuch is not going to be traded, but it is always fun imagining a true hockey trade!
Buffalo will probably continue building through the draft, adding young talent through trades, or picking up players who are from Buffalo or have a connection to Buffalo.

How would you rank Andersson among his peers? Top 20D? Top 30? I agree that he's a number 1D but he's closer to the 25-30 range IMO. He really needs to take another step defensively before I would agree with you. Right now I feel that both Tanev and Weegar are better at actually defending.

I also think that Tuch brings more than just points. It's a matter of perspective, but there will be a lot of good D available next off season, starting with Toews

I'm not exactly arguing the value. In a vacuum I think they are pretty close. I am arguing the team needs and positional difficulty to fill. Especially in the upcoming years. The only legitimate #1 caliber defensemen whose contracts expire in the next 2 years are Theodore, Slavin, Burns (though too old), Ekblad, Montour(?), Chychrun, and Hedman. Can pretty much cross Burns off that list due to age and Hedman certainly isn't leaving Tampa. So that leaves 5 guys, with Slavin almost certainly not being willing to sign in Canada and Montour is kind of a long shot to call a legitimate #1 defenseman. You can probably make an argument for Toews but like Weegar I consider him an elite #2 (Seabrook/Rafaski esque)

As for wingers in that caliber expiring in the next 2 years you have Boeser, Kuzmenko, Marchessault, Stephenson, Hall, Rantanen, Benn, Pavelski, Duchene, Buchnevich, Ehlers, Toffoli, Nelson, Konecny, Guentzel, Marchand (prob retires), Reinhart, Verhaeghe, Tarasenko, Stamkos, Marner, Nylander, Bertuzzi. Im excluding Draisaitl and Scheifele from this list as they are pretty much strictly centers

Comparing all the defenseman I rank him between 20-25 in the league. I rank Weegar just inside the top 20 though but I do not consider Weegar a legitimate #1. I think Weegar's overall game is better but I don't think he plays the role of a #1 as well.

Look at my above post on why I think this trade is nearsighted

Exactly and Calgary should really consider blowing it up - right now Calgary looks like a team that could just make the playoffs but not go very far or just miss the playoffs -Why am I willing to over pay for Anderson ? because while he's not the best his contract makes him the best for the Sabres Dahlin and Power have to be paid and Anderson's salary and contract length fit perfectly for the Sabres.

Hard to say for sure. Statistically Calgary was a top 5 team at 5v5 play last year

So are you going to keep Hanifin and Lindholm all year? and hope they don't leave in Free agency?

I'm not the GM but recent reports are Lindholm is interested in staying. Hard to gauge what they will do with Hanifin but they aren't going to sell him for peanuts. You get more value out of him as a self rental than trading him for a couple 2nds

The recent rumblings in CGY suggest they will try to trade Hanifin, because he made it clear he wants to play in the US. An extension with Lindholm is more or less agree on, for $, and term. They're working on the bonus structure, and are going to see the fit through the first 2 months. If they're winning games, and having fun Lindholm will re-sign.
