Terrible take.
Labanc is still a middle-6 winger with offensive upside, at 50% retention it makes him a lot closer to his market value (even below it).
Barabanov is a steal at his salary even without any retention and can easily slot into any team's top-6 at any role. A Hyman-type player.
No **** that Lindblom + Kahkonen have negative value, but that's kind of the point here (to offset Campbell salary for at least 1 season).
Hoffman isn't really worth nothing which is why I put him as being moved for a 7th.
Kevin Labanc was healthy scratched multiple times last year, and put up roughly .5p/gp while being absolutely terrible on defense, and having one of the worst penalty differentials in the league. All that for the low-low price of $4.7m/yr, or 2$2.35m with 50% retained. I'm not sure he would even get a 7th with retention, let alone more.
Barabonov is absolutely a steal at his salary, but I think his value is closer to a single 2nd rounder if there isn't any money being retained. If there end up being multiple teams trying to go after him at the deadline, I could see the price going up.
I don't see the Oilers doing that deal unless Campbell is even worse this year than he was last year, and Kahkonnen shows some actual signs of improvement (Or the Oilers go out and aquire an actual #1 goaltender). The Oilers would effectively be making themselves worse on paper all of a little bit of cap relief, which likely won't help them going into the playoffs.
Hoffman for a 7th is whatever, that's basically future considerations so a 7th is fine I guess.
