The trade could help both sides if a 3rd team retained some for the Leafs…But Babcock will quit if he gets Willy Styles back on his bench?…or has Babcock changed? Maybe they both have?

I do think Peeke could be the guy to do what Schenn did for Reilly…maybe more.

CBJ aren't interested in trading a guy who wants to be on the team and is signed through 2026 for someone who's going to dip in FA before the team's window even potentially would open. Just doesn't make any sense for them.

Oh I'd 100% do it then. Nylander is worth ~1 mil more per year than Laine imo, so that'd be great for Columbus, plus it'd give 2 extra years of team control compared to Laine currently. Columbus would likely need to add something in that instance though if Nylander is willing to extend.

Laine could work really well with Matthews and Bertuzzi.

It should go up $4-5 Mil. If that's the case, $9.5 and JT is offered no more than $4M when he's a UFA the next year. Brodie will be off the board and the leafs will have more options

Forgot about JT coming off that ridiculous cap hit soon enough. You're right - that will make a huge difference too

Yeah, it allows for Willie to be signed in that 9 - 9.5 range and then Marner to be resigned as well around 11.5.
