Nylander stays

Created by: PaIhal
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 8, 2023
Published: Sep. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Resigns at 2*$9.88M. Many assumptions he wants 8 years but that takes him to 36. Why not sign two years at $9.88 then extend for 8 years before his age 30 season. Lots of teams will do 7/8 years at that age still knowing he has 3-4 good years left.

Those piece are enough for those two why would you add a first cmon have some sense, and Brodie is our best defensive defender we aren’t trading him

Signing Willy to 2 years is a bad idea in my opinion, if you pay him 100-150K more you lock him for 8 seasons instead of paying him 10.5-11 two years from now till he's 38

Maybe could get a 3rd coming back but the players aren't enough.

Where you going to play Brodie?

His style hurts Rielly (he's been statistically worse since he started playing with Brodie and Keefe tried desperately not to pair them towards the end of last year. He played with Lili, Holl, Sandin, Schenn instead of Brodie).

Brodie definitely doesn't complement Klingberg who needs someone with. Solid first pass to catch him in stride.

The two players you get are perfect compliments to Rielly and Klingberg

It's a risk, what if the team sucks the next two years? Your likely gonna rather trade him which will be easier to do with 1 year left than 7.

I don’t want anything coming back cause this trade doesn’t happen because it’s dumb end of discussion

As long as AM, Marner, and Reilly around, your not going to suck. When AM and MM are hitting their prime, re-tooling or rebuilding is wasting the prime of the two best players in franchise history. Their window is just opening

Qualify first that I'm not a Leafs fan. Did cheer for them in the playoffs last year, but in general not a Leafs fan.

I don't mind the idea of a 2 year deal, but thats more of a prove it deal...not cave to Nylander's demands. Lock him up for an additional $150k. 2 year deal for him would be $8.5M max.

Was he an $8.5M player last year during his best year? IMO no.

Don't understand the logic for Nylander signing for just two years, and then hoping for an eight year deal. Heck seven years starting next session maybe too much.
Haven't improved the defence much if at all. Why do folks still have this fantasy with PJ?

Aside from the 1st The Leafs didn't give up anything... but if I am the Leafs GM I ask for my 2024 3d pick back

I won't get into a better or worse debate on the D...I like it better than the current situation and I think it makes more sense

On Jesse Puljujarvi I do agree with the above, do you think he actually turns it around in TO (and for that salary) vs just going elsewhere prolly for more? I mean he may dream and look to play in a top 6 role again?
