CBJ arent trading the Captain for either (a) a rental of a T6 W we dont need; or, (b) the ability to sign Nylander to a contract they will immediately regret.

Dear lord that Columbus trade is awful.

You're trading:
a 27-year-old point-per-game 40-goal scorer
a 4/5D

for:
a 30-year-old 40-point 3C,
a 4D (yes he played higher...but that was on last year's 31st-place team)
and a 2nd round pick next year

Let alone the whole "Jenner defending Babs" thing, I'm sure that'd go over great with Marner et al.

Jenner brings grit to the table and is very well like in Columbus hence the slight overpayment you pointed out. Whether he was asked by management to back Babcock as his coach at the time or he chose to defend him on his own will is irrelevant to on ice performance.

Peeke brings a shutdown style role to their Defense. Adding some much needed Hits to their lineup. I only slotted him with Reilly as Reilly enjoys jumping up in the rush and Peeke would essentially remain at home to cover.

With regards to the 2nd being next year... Currently the Leafs earliest pick next year is a 4th round. So this just adds some draft capital for next year's draft.

As for Nylander, I would suspect he'd resign, perhaps a 5 year deal for 9 maybe 9.5M and play alongside Johnny G. Being in a market like Columbus, the expectations would be lessened and the harsh media that he faces in TO would be drastically lessened allowing him to relax a little. Lilly is added as a younger RHD to replace Peeke in the exchange.

Nylander isn't going to fix what ails CBJ - namely T4 D, G, and C depth - at least one of those Boone can address. I also have a feeling Willy is going to be asking for a lot more than that; and, CBJ devoting $9M+ to JG, Zack, *and* Willy when they are soon going to need extensions for Johnson, Marchenko, Tex, and a slew of other young guys just isn't good cap management.

As it pertains to Babcock (and this isn't a specific call-out to you, just generally), Boone (and Johnny, and Zach) have all come out and said they weren't aware he had treated the younger players on the roster differently, and spoke out against it.
