Until Quinn is Back

Created by: jacobdonacik19
Team: 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 20, 2023
Published: Sep. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This lineup is just to make adjustments until Quinn is healthy and to keep production positive on all top 3 lines. The biggest change here is having mitts on the top line and Thompson on the 2nd. Idea was brought up on the locked on sabres podcast. We know skinner-mitts-Tuch can be highly effective and dangerous from end of last year. I think Thompson can elevate Krebs game and I think Kulich has wanted his chance at least to start. I think those three can pair well and this is sort of a last chance to bring out Krebs offensive side. Peterka - cozens we know works and Greenway is just a placeholder until Quinn is back.

I don’t think Ryan Johnson has much of a chance to make the team, mostly because Granato said in his press conference after free agency that he wants every defenseman on their natural side so that wouldn’t leave a spot open for Ryan. I also think they will keep 3 goalies again.

First,
the idea for Mitts at 1C & Tage on line2 is absolutely not a “locked on Sabres” idea
It’s EXACTLY what happened last year when Thompson got hurt & Mitts filled in at 1C for him. He did such a good job, that when Tage was healthy again, we kept Mitts at 1C and Tage played on the 2nd line- not at Center though- Cozens was the Center & Thompson played RW

Secondly,
where do u get that this is “Krebs last chance” for anything?
He’s being developed as a 2way forward, who we obviously like quite a bit, or he wouldn’t be centering Okposo & Girgs, getting the tough assignments on a nightly basis. His lack of offense thus far stem from being out into a defensive role- he’s fine

Third & Fourth,
Kulich in the lineup over Olofsson is doubtful
Ryan Johnson in the lineup over Jokiharju is also doubtful
When it’s close, the Vets almost always get the nod

Finally,
I agree with @BUF10 in that we carry 3 goalies
UPL was great in spurts for us last year, & i think we wanna see more from him

1. I offer no comment.
2. Krebs still has to show more, but I think he has a shot at being a good 3c, which has value. They've set him up for it.
3. I think olofsson gets the spot for now. Playing away from mittelstadt would definitely help.
4. I don't expect much from Ryan johnson or jokiharju, but if it's one or the other, it'll be jokiharju because he's been here longer.
5. Yes, to keeping 3 goalies, I expect all 3 to see more than 10 games.

I think the idea with Krebs is that we see him in more of a 2way role next season, as opposed to the mostly defensive role he had last season that i think continues this year between Girgs & Okposo

Whether or not he’s slotted on the 3rd line or not could depend on what we end up doing with Mitts

I think there’s a very real possibility, that next season, we see something like this :
Skinner-Tage-Tuch
Peterka-Cozens-Quinn
Benson-(Krebs/Mitts)-Savoie
Greenway-Kulich-Rousek

That bottom6 could switch up quite a bit if we were to bring back Okposo &/or Girgs again, of if other Vet(s) are brought in
