Running low on contract space and they have a lot of AHL goalies, so I'm not sure why they needed to do this. That said, if a 5th round pick is good enough to sign, then that's a victory.

Maximum contract is assumed, not set in stone

he's getting loaned to juniors anyways, so the contract is exempt. Good question you brought up though, not sure why they have 4 guys signed. Guess they're looking at loaning someone out or a minor trade.

goaltending statistics in the junior leagues dont tell the whole story, but a longshot. the lack of coaching, some god awful defensive teams are going to bury good players. hes years away from the ahl let alone nhl. nothing wrong with these kind of deals for your draft picks. Martin and Sawchenko will be long gone by the time he is competing for icetime.

He's gonna be in Junior this year and I don't think they count towards the 50 contracts total

Sawchenko probably goes to the ECHL and Martin seems to be trade bait/waiver fodder

Like it matters, but Sawchenko is a solid AHL goalie. On a terrible Chicago Wolves (mainly defense), he did pretty well. Definitely good enough to be a backup in the AHL/starter but we'll see. DeSmith trade was very odd, with Silovs pretty much ready for the NHL.
