And then presumably when Jack and Timo come back and we send guys down our cap hit goes down? Would it be enough?

Our opening cap space...with everyone healthy...was about $1.67m

So unless we move someone out, we will probably have some carryover.

We had $422k from last year. (Boston has $4.5m)

Not really a worry

Graeme Clarke has been named to AHL All Star team

“Utica’s Graeme Clarke (New Jersey) and Ontario’s Brandt Clarke (Los Angeles) have both been selected, and will become just the second pair of brothers to skate in the same AHL All-Star Classic after Peter and Chris Ferraro in 1997 and 2003.”

Flames blog has long post on selling Hanifin...and ends with their prediction:

Trade prediction
To New Jersey: Noah Hanifin (CGY Retains 50% of his cap hit)
To Calgary: 2024 1st Round Pick, Seamus Casey
Getting a first-round pick and a good prospect from a desperate team like the Devils isn’t unrealistic based off comparable deals of the past.

I would 100% pass on giving that for a rental. His premise is valid. But Casey as just a “good prospect” is ridiculous. Maybe devils fans should have spent 2 years hyping him up non stop like Habs fans did with Hutson to convince people he’s some generational prospect

The Chychyrn and Hronek deals don't line up imo
The 1st obviously goes to Cal
Casey is a first in my eyes so it's not 1- or 2- 2nds

Yeah chych had 3 years of term, Hronek had 2 and RFA control. Just not comparables.

On first one see if Tanev is available and add
Swap Bahl for Lenni (if Hanifin is onboard with a contract)
I wouldn't trade schmid, offer more and send Vitek
A Hanifin trade imo has to come with a discussion of signing a contract, not just a rental

I’d rather have Hanifin than Tanev…especially if it’s a long term move. Don’t think Fitzy would make a move out of desperation…but now that we have seen Nemec, it would make parting with Casey a bit easier.

Oh I agree, I was just commenting on all of the offerings, Tanev is a bandaid fit for this year only, Hanifin would be long term or pass. Keep SchimdO! If it ended up being Markstrom his backup would be one of AS or Daws, move one if need be next year. Markstrom at $4M is not nearly as tough as full salary. He's got 1 addl year than Vitek and they relieved us of that. Not my first choice for a G but not my last

I honestly don’t think we add a goalie mid-year unless a real difference maker becomes available or we have an injury.

If we go big, I think the move would be similar to LAK’s acquisition of Gavrikov and Korpisalo…where they got a rental goalie and dman with a little term by extending him (not sure who that is this year)

If we stay small, we add some cheap depth, save our ammo for the summer when more guys will be available.

But 64,000 question is …. what if a guy like Markstrom or Gibson becomes available for cheap?

Pettersson+Ned would be my Korpi+Gavrikov if they come available.

If Markstrom and Gibson are available dirt cheap at full cap or at a reasonable price with retention I'd do it

Have always liked Barré-Boulet…didn’t realize he was UFA at the of the year. I wonder if he is an undervalued guy who could do better in system like NJDs

Mercer goal was all Miller breakout pass. That is what we need.

I think it’s “trade vitek” chants

One point is great…but that Tampa team is one we normally should match up really well against.

Meh with the LTIR cap space we have it's not worth dumping him at an all time low. AHL him and just trade for a goalie without paying to dump vitek

I will say…other than that Luke mistake…it was a pretty strong nuts and bolts game. Got some dirty goals. We outshot them. 1 giveaway, 3 takeaways…low turnover game, but it’s the first + game we have had in weeks.
